Description:
Gypsy Sticks was formed in 2007 when band members Jerry Bruno and Rich Murff met at a jam session at Touchet's Paint and Body Shop in Carencro, Louisiana. At the time, "Rich", who had just recently begun playing in a few local hole-in-the-walls, was looking to start a band to play gigs at some of the local bars around the Acadiana area. After the two hit it off at the jam session, they began practicing every week and eventually landed a few gigs at places like "Maggie's Office Lounge" (now called "Legends"), "McMillan's Pub", "Bridge Bar" and "SKG Saloon" (now the "Breaux Bridge City Bar").
While the band remained "fluid" with members coming and going (actually, the band was usually Rich, Bruno and whoever decided to show up that night), they always provided great entertainment for their fans. However, after several months of playing various bars in the area, Rich decided it was time to record some original material. Rich had been writing songs for over 15 years and so they had a lot of material to draw from. So, armed with a laptop, an off-brand mixer/PA system and a couple of Shure microphones, they headed off to the Wilson Camp in Crystal Springs, Mississippi to record their first album, "No Bridges".
"No Bridges" was an instant success with the "Stick Heads" (what they began calling their dedicated fans), and even made it into the jukebox at the SKG Saloon. With toe-tapping tunes such as "Can't Seem to Stop" and "Ode to the Hole" all the way to belly-rubbing "Hold Me Tonight", "No Bridges" had a little something for everyone.
Unfortunately, the album quality, though considerably good for the equipment they had available at the time, was less than radio quality, so with no air play, came no notoriety. Eventually, Rich and Bruno went their separate ways and took a break from the band, though they kept in touch.
Fast forward to January 2011, Rich (who had been touring with "Midnite Cruise") decided it was time for Gypsy Sticks to get back together. Fans were asking for them, bar owners were calling, and Rich had a whole new set of songs to record a new album (and better recording equipment this time). They kicked off their reunion by performing at a benefit for Shane Touchet (Richard's nephew who has cancer) at Bar 98. Now, between gigs they're heading to the studio to record the new album.
