Description:
The Garland Mason Band came together in the fall of 2010 and is a blues driven rock group. An emphasis on vocal performance supported by stellar musicianship creates the bands well rounded sound. While they enjoy fusing cover songs with their unique sound their true passion lies in writing and playing their original music. They recently finished a follow-up EP with the current incarnation of the band. By playing at least twice a week at various venues around the area Garland Mason Band has developed a loyal, local following. They are expanding their fan base by performing in cities around the state such as Chapel Hill, Fayetteville, Wilmington, and Morehead City. In June of 2010 Garland Mason Band participated in and won the WBBB 96.1 Rock house band competition. Garland Mason Band plays in a regular rotation at venues such as The Lincoln Theatre, The Pour House and Southland Ball Room. The band has also supported nationally touring acts like Ponderosa, Taddy Porter, Runs With Bulls, and The Connells. The band has a strong work ethic and a hunger to succeed which ensures a positive future with this band.
Band Members:
Garland Mason (Lead Vocals, Guitar): Garland has been creating music since the age of 12, when he first began guitar. After years of playing in numerous groups, he finally found soul music and the blues. With strong blues guitar roots and a passion for rock, Garland writes his heart to the page for this band. Influences: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, Dave Matthews Band.
David Healy (Lead Guitar): Dave has been playing guitar since 8th grade, his playing is blues and jazz driven. He has been in several bands before this but has truely found a perfect fit in this style of music. Dave plays finger style guitar to give his playing a unique sound and also makes use of the slide on select songs. Dave is meticulous about his tone and making his playing vocal and unique. Influences: Derek Trucks, John Mayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin.
Nathan Spain (Drums): Nathan got his first drum kit on his third birthday. He has been playing in bands for several years. Nathan’s drumming focuses on modern rhythms rooted in jazz with a heavy emphasis on syncopated accents. His drumming is richly diverse and consistently complex. Influences: Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Foo Fighters, Tool.
Forrest Leker (Bass): Forrest began playing bass guitar when he was fourteen and started playing in bands a few months later. He enjoys playing different styles of music but mainly funk, rock, and blues which is perfect for the Garland Mason Band. Influences: Hendrix, Allman Brothers Band, The Mars Volta, Flea, Jaco Pastorius
