Description:
FrankenSabbath is a band for all occasions. Our strength as an acoustic band gives us the ability to work well in all settings. We have played an assortment of venues from outdoor festivals and coffee houses, to raucous bars and intimate private parties
Band Members:
In the beginning two lifelong friends and passionate musicians re-connected and formed the core philosophy that is now FrankenSabbath. November of 2008 saw Chris and Russell Spera, childhood friends separated by over twenty years of divergent life experiences, get together and begin to share their one constant passion, music. Chris’ relationship with the microphone is grounded in his experience as the front man of former local hard rock bands such as Pentagon and Killroy. Russell, on the other hand, comes from a background of jam bands and old time folk music. He has slung a guitar, mandolin, and a variety of other instruments for bands like the Psychedelic Orchestra and the Buckwheat String Band. This fusion of diverse musical backgrounds led to the creation of FrankenSabbath.
Armed with cajon (a wooden box-like percussion instrument) and his voice, Chris began attending Russell’s jam parties. Chris’ musical hard edge began infiltrating the loose feel of Russell’s music. While playing “Rooster” (Alice in Chains) together they had an epiphany; Acoustic Metal. From that spark evolved the concept of “sewing” together songs with their varied influences; a “Frankenstein-ing” of songs. Rounding out their vision was the important addition of bassist Steve Jankowski. Steve, most recently from The Band V, has shared the stage with Chris in a variety of bands including Pentagon. His bass lines are now the foundation on which all our songs are built. This is FrankenSabbath.
