Description:
The Dog and Pony Show was founded in February of 2008 by Derrick Cook and Matt Dixon, formerly of local Chattanooga band Hairpin Trigger, and Tony Byers, former drummer for The Unsatisfied. Their diverse musical backgrounds make for an explosive sound and amazing stage presence.
Drummer Tony Byers’ grooving sound is derived from such drummers as Matt Abts (of Gov‘t Mule fame), John Bonham, and Randy Castillo (formerly of Ozzy Osborne), which gives forth his high energy back beat that provides the perfect pad for Matt Dixon’s arousing bass sound.
Matt’s usage of a ‘Weeping Demon’ wah pedal on a six-string bass and a four-string fretless give him a mean punch with a smooth aftertaste leaving you on the very edge of your seat. His collective sound is mainly influenced by Rhino (Mudvayne), Dana Strum (Slaughter) and Cliff Burton.
Guitarist and lead singer Derrick Cook gives body and soul to the band’s already immense sound. His blues-oriented lyrics that speak of life, love and loss, accompany the noteable guitar playing which is influenced largely by Duane Allman, Joe Bonamassa, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
In September 2008, Dog and Pony Show began recording their first studio album. The Album is due out Summer of 2009 and the title is still in the works.
With their vast array of influences, Dog and Pony Show continues to draw crowds to shows where they put their knowledge of music to use, making false endings, free style jams and melodic passages a common occurrence.
