Description:
The Pros Dance Band began in the mid-1970's. It was founded by eight doctors who had a love of music. Rehearsals were originally held at the Harper Grace Hospital. They later moved to Oak Park High School and then to Berkley Community Center. The band currently rehearses at Woodland Church in Royal Oak under the direction of Howard Campbell.
The band performs a wide span of traditional ballads, swing music, big band rock arrangements and current favorites. They also perform music from the big band era, including Harry James, Count Basie, Tommy Dorsey and Glen Miller. The Pros play in a variety of private and public settings, including fundraisers, weddings and company functions in and around the Detroit Metropolitan area.
Band Members:
The current band is comprised of 17 members from a variety of musical backgrounds. A number of members play in area concert bands, brass choirs and other instrumental groups.
