Description:
Massachusetts-born Jeff Mason was probably singing before he could talk. Music has certainly been a part of his life for longer than he can remember. When he was very young he took to instruments of all types but very quickly progressed on the piano since that was what he had in his NH home. He began writing songs on it around the age of 10 years old, and at the age of 13, after showing interest in his older brother’s electric guitar, his parents bought him a student acoustic guitar. Three days later he began playing that guitar with his friend Kent on drums (It’s probably best there are no recordings of that). Since then, he has never been without a guitar.

Like most musicians, Jeff has played in a number of bands who enjoyed mild success in the club circuit. The Austin Winch Band, The Cast, and Devout to name a few. All of these experiences helped mould him in one way or another, but it wasn’t until he brought a group of people together in the mid 90’s to form Rock Mason that his writing styles matured.

It was immediately clear that this line up was to be The Jeff Mason Band, a band of great musicians and friends alike, all with the drive to make music their vehicle for success. As the songwriter, lead vocalist and guitarist for the band, Jeff finds new inspiration each time he plays with this great group of guys. There is magic in this unit that all musicians strive to feel at least once in their life. Many of the songs on the Jeff Mason Band debut record, “Get Busy Living,” have a timeless staying power that can is felt immediately upon first listen.

Band Members:
Bill Coomey (Drums) is a Worcester native with musical DNA! He loves to play and listen to any great music as long as it has soul. He heralds from a musical family. His grandfather “Bill King” is and accomplished rockabilly guitarist who played on the TV show Boomtown in the 60’s and was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Bill started playing when he was 2 years old. One day he broke the dowels out of his crib and started wacking them on everything and ….No no, that wont work, It sounded good but… no….

Bill started Playing Drums in his early teens after many years of listening to the likes of Keith Moon, John Bonham and later Neil Peart then in 1984 Bill got a set for Christmas (thanks Santa!)

Since then he has graced the stages of most Worcester clubs honing his skills with the like’s of Ripcore , 7HP, Spitshine and the Jenny Project.

When he heard the Jeff Mason Band was looking for a drummer he didn’t waste any time making his move. Now he’s kick’n it regularly with the boys in the Band and ready for action.

Come check out Bill holding down the grove at the next JMB show. Bill can be reached at bill@jeffmasonband.com

Steve Tardy (Bass)has been honing his bass skills for many years in New England area bands. The most notable were the Trouble Boys, The Soul Miners, and the Lil Steve and the Road Dogs. Steve paid his dues by doing what ever it took to move his bands forward. Like many musicians he often had the pursuit of these goals disrupted by poor attitudes, excessive drinking and all the usual culprits that raise their heads in rock n roll relationships.

Steve decided to step back, take a deep breath and wait for the right opportunity with like-minded musicians. Enter the JMB……

Steve first saw the Jeff Mason Band at a concert in November of “06”. He was immediately impressed with the bands style, arrangements and great vocals. At that time however the bassist position was filled.

Fortunately the opportunity that Steve was waiting for finally came when he was contacted by the JMB about playing bass in the band. Steve had known Jeff Mason for a long time and he knew his character. “I knew he didn’t do anything half assed…. and seeing the band live further proved my point” so Steve decided to give it a go with the boys and has been having a great time ever since. Come check out Steve holding the bottom at the next JMB show.
