Description:
Last Stand is a cadre of patriotic men that hail from the great state of Oklahoma. Each member has been carving out their niche in America’s south central music theatre for a right smart time. David Real, Don Burns, Roy Barnes, and John Pollard all invest a dab of themselves on the traditional and contemporary American music they love so much with a great big dose of bluegrass style. They each bring to Last Stand their own unique talents and a coon’s age of experience to the stage. Their instrumentation is divers, yet clear, and their harmony is a delight to the ear. Last Stand will warrant that you shall be entertained with a heartfelt, hard driving sound by a company of characters that obviously love what they do and are nuttier than a pecan tree full of squirrels.

Band Members:
David Real plays the mandolin and shares the vocals in the band singing all the parts. He also plays guitar and bass. He toured most America singing lead for Journeymen Gospel Quartet back in 1966 for many years. He has played in other bluegrass bands like One Way Road, CommonTyme, and Flint Hill Special. David is also a horse cavalry movie re-enactor and appeared in the movie "Ride With the Devil." He is a retired Oklahoma City Police Officer and currently works for OSBI, so don't jack with us dude! He is also in the business of breaking and training horses (although, I think the horses have finally gotten him trained to leave them alone.) David has this uncanny, almost scary, ability to recommend a place to eat, no matter where you tell him you are.

John Pollard started learning the guitar when he was 12 years old. He discovered bluegrass in 1972 and helped form the Bluegrass Revue. Then he joined a hairy, eclectic group called “The Upper Middle Grass” and had the pleasure of picking fun places like Spring Lake, Frontier City, The National Flatpicking Contest in Winfield, Kansas (Yes, John has entered that contest 3 times, and no, he didn’t win) Alan Munde has sat in with them and they were the warm up band for Willie Nelson.

He finally met a girl at a Bluegrass Festival that could not only sing, but she played the guitar too. She had a little group called Country Grass and she needed a guitar picker, so the next year, at the same festival, on stage, she married him just so she wouldn't have to pay him.

Don is certainly one of the best banjo players in Oklahoma and always performs from his heart. he has played for several local groups, such as Keechi Mountain Boys, Blue Mountain Boys, Southern Sound, and One Way Road. He also plays several other instruments, but he won’t tell us what they are...

Roy is the newest member of Last Stand but he’s been a long time friend and pickin’ partner to just about everyone in the group. He picked up the guitar at a very early age, his dad being a Jimmie Rodgers style singer/blue yodeler, he always had a guitar laying around. He discovered the banjo and in 1969 joined The Bluegrass Okies until about 1974 then he played with Rudy Q. Jones and Red Dirt, The Bluegrass Volunteers, The Sossman Family, Oklahoma Bluegrass Gentlemen, Bob Wackerly & Blue Mt. Boys, Nash Ramblers, Country Grass and most recently five years with The Keener Family & Roy Barnes.

Roy became seriously interested in dobro while playing banjo with Rudy Jones and has been playing dobro since about 1978. Roy began his “songwriting career” in 1995 and has had several of his songs recorded by regional bands.
