Diesel Jones

From the desolate plains of a distant galaxy, Diesel Jones wears a ten gallon space cowboy hat to the Rockabilly party. After nearly a year together, they've established a repertoire of original tunes that combine the freewheeling spirit of the jam with the traditional music of the American South and an eclectic selection of covers spanning a multitude of genres.

This diverse foursome came together in a Sunroom in Virginia Highlands through mutual friend and former bandmate Sam Aranson, in the late summer of 2006. The result was a mosaic of bass heavy southern rock, space country, blues, and Americana sounds.

Diesel Jones’ musical influences include Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Uncle Tupelo, Gram Parsons, The Band, John Coltrane, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, Miles Davis, David Grisman, Walt Whitman, Susan Tedeschi, Sheila E, Stuart Copeland, and Tony Royster, Jr.

Band Members:
Rachel Dobbs (age 26, vocals, drums) grew up in Clearwater, Florida and came to Atlanta just under two years ago. She began playing the drums at age twenty-one and first joined a group in 2005, playing bluegrass music with Joel Williams and former band member, Sam Aranson. Rachel played classical piano as a young child but found her love in the drums by playing in her free time while working at a Summer Camp in north GA. She graduated from the University of Michigan in 2003 and spent several years working on Capitol Hill before making her way to Atlanta.

Jeff Eckard, (age 31, lead vocal, rhythm guitar) came to Atlanta at age 10 by way of Orlando, Florida. He began writing music at age 12, played a bit of bass, and found his home in the guitar at age 15. Jeff graduated from Georgia Southern University with a B.A. in broadcasting production. Jeff has been active in the Statesboro and Atlanta music scenes for many years and has written most of the original tunes for Diesel Jones.

Bass player Chris Beem (age 26, bass) was born in Missouri and came to Atlanta at age eleven where he picked up a bass at the young age of thirteen. Chris recently graduated from the Atlanta Institute of Music but has been active in the Athens and Atlanta music scenes since 1999. Chris is currently pursuing other musical endeavors in addition to Diesel Jones which include developing his own record label, Bacontime Records, and playing with another group called Nobody and the Something or Others.

The product of two musicians, Joel Williams (age 30, lead guitar) began playing guitar at age sixteen. After attending Oglethorpe University, Joel finished his schooling at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where he graduated in 2001. Joel currently runs his own business as a professional guitarist playing an eclectic mix of classical and modern music ranging from bluegrass to Bach and everything in between.

Jimmy Landry is a keyboardist who recently relocated to Atlanta from nearby Asheville. He is an accomplished musician and has played with many groups. Jimmy currently plays with Diesel Jones as well as the Jason Lefty Williams Band.
