Description:
Sound of Seventy Three (So73) is an instrumental post-rock band based out of Atlanta, Georgia. Drawing inspiration from the guitar styling of 80s and 90s alternative acts like U2, The Cure, and My Bloody Valentine they mix the melodicism and textural approach of these bands with the more aggressive sound and D.I.Y. approach of 90s indie-rock. Making use of the full breadth and depth of the guitars expressive possibilities So73 sculpt cathartic emotional music out of ringing guitar intervals, echo-drenched vocal- less melodies, and distorted harmonies.
Band Members:
Formed in 2004, Sound of Seventy Three is the outgrowth of a few years of home recording by New York native Doug Johnson. A veteran of such New York and Atlanta bands as Ellen Cherry, Vine, Mutha Witt, The Old School Dropouts, and Halftone, Doug has developed a style on the guitar that is the foundation for So73s music. He formed Sound of Seventy Three with the help of friends and former band mates to bring his home recording project to a wider audience. Those band mates include Matt McKenny on drums, and brothers Mike WIlhlem on Guitar, and Jeremy Wilhelm on Bass.
