2006 is going to be a great year for Russell Gulley. Gritz Magazine has just named his CD,"Back to the Swamp" as "#6 of the TOP TEN BEST DIY CDs of 2005" . A great honor and thanks much to Buffalo and the staff.
Blues & Co. Magazine in France just ran a feature interview with Russell in their Dec. 2005 issue. Thanks to Tonton Erick for helping open up France to "Back to the Swamp" and Russell.

Russell will be performing in several formats in 2006. One will be as a singer-songwriter soloist, another will be in a "acousic swamp blues" duo with either harpist Paul Shoffner or Blind Willie Jones, then also his "Russell Gulley and Friends" will be appearing at several gigs through the year. "Friends" features Johnny Neel of the Allman Brothers and Gov't Mule, Chris Anderson of The Outlaws and Black Hawk, and Blind Willie Jones. It is truely an all-star southern rock evening of acoustic blues and roots music. Russell will also be returning to the club circuit this year with a strong rhythm section featuring his brother Dennis on bass.

Russell's Showcase for the Southern Arts Federation's PAE booking conference in Memphis last Sept.'05, is opening doors for Russell to perform outside of the Southeast for the first time in several years. Dates are being developed in the New York City and Boston areas for later in 2006 or early 2007.
As a member of the board of directors for the Alabama Folklife Association, Russell will be working several festivals this year for the organization.He is looking forward to networking and meeting with more folks out there . Dates will posted here and please come by to see him when you can.
Russell is really proud of the work his doing in Arts in Education these days. He's been studying with Karen Erickson of the Kennedy Center in Washington,D.C. and Martha Lockett of the Alabama Institute for Education in the Arts and is now putting that study to work. Two residencies are developing for the 2006-2007 school year. One will be in his hometown of Fort Payne and the other is to be in Clarksdale,Ms. sponsored by the Delta Blues Museum. In Clarksdale, Russell may get to partner with the legendary Mr. Johnnie Billington who started the first "Blues in Schools" program a decade or so ago.
Russell is partnering in April with AFA Community Scholar, Diane Gerard and her students from the Alabama School for Math and Science in Mobile to start a new folklife project. They will use oral histories,photography,video,and audio recordings to produce a documentary on the hosiery industry in Fort Payne, known for decades as the "Sock Capitol of the World".
New releases are being planned for 2006, a new studio cd produced by brother Dennis Gulley at Johnny Neel's Straight Up Sound in Nashville is targeted for release in the fall, a "live" Cd is being discussed that will be recorded with legendary southern rock producer, Johnny Sandlin and featuring the "Friends", also a DVD of "Friends" recorded by Robert Moehr at Russell's homecoming performance last summer, is being edited for possible release later this year. All will be available at cdbaby.com ,on Russell's Website, and at performances during 2006.
