Band Members:
About Kulcha Far I Kulcha Far I (a.k.a. Christopher Hakata) was born and raised in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, Africa. While in Zimbabwe, Kulcha Far I was first exposed to reggae in 1980, the same year Zimbabwe received her independence from British rule and reggae music began hitting the radio airwaves. When Bob Marley performed in Harare during the country's first independence celebration on April 18, 1980, reggae solidly grew roots in the life of Kulcha as well as scores upon scores of Zimbabwean youths. Kulcha was also heavily influenced by the incredible reggae roots sounds of other reggae legends such as Peter Tosh and Burning Spear, and also London-based groups like ASWAD and Misty In Roots. The rest is now history. In the United States, Kulcha teamed up with Keith Abrams (bass player/arranger/producer), Andrew Pursell (master keyboardist), George Abrams (guitarist) and Ian Stison (drummer/producer) to create some inspiring, conscious musical works. Known for his inspired and spirited vocals, Kulcha also had the opportunity to record some tracks with Jamaican producer/artist Ranking Scroo in California. In the year 2000, Kulcha Far I released to critical acclaim the long-awaited debut CD, "Africa Is My Roots". The latest CD, African Rasta was a collaboration between Kulcha and Netherlands-based producer and master musician Ger Schäfer of Luny Music. Released in Europe at the end of 2003, African Rasta picks up from where Africa Is My Roots left off and is a brilliant roots release. It contains all the elements of consciousness and spiritualism along with a downright true African feel. Message music it is indeed!! Roots and culture music straight from Africa the Motherland! The music is truly world beat reggae at it's best. John Shook Jr. (Bass Guitar) The senior member of Kulcha’s band, John has played bass with Kulcha for over five years and serves as the band’s musical director. He is also an in demand musician in the Fort Worth area and can be found filling out the low end for Blues/R&B outfits like the Hosea Robinson Blues Band and the Larry Lampkin Band. John’s flexibility as a musician has also been showcased by many of the area's more eclectic acts Ron Geida (Lead Guitar) Ron began playing the guitar as a teenager and started playing in bands around the New England area where he studied privately with Bob Ferrier and Phil Defremery. After receiving his AA in music from Holyoke Community College in Massachusetts, Ron relocated to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to become one of the most sought after players in the Metroplex. When not playing with Kulcha Far I, Ron teaches guitar and has been an "in demand" instructor for over seven years. Ron also plays with Jasper Stone, a Fort Worth country rock outfit that has toured throughout the U.S. and Europe. Jeffery Williams (Drums) A drumer for several years and like Ron also teaches. Jeffery ran away with the circus several years ago and still loves to preform live tricks.
