Description:
The Black River Brethren are the best cowpunk band you’ve never heard, and you owe it to yourself to listen. Three songwriters who find punk rock and twang in common have created a local phenomenon that Corey Fox from Muse Music (in Provo, Utah) calls ‘creepy country.’ Others call it ‘goth-grass.’ The amalgamation known as Black River Brethren write songs about the devil, shotguns, and pioneers and present them with fiddle, banjo, dobro, cello, bass, drums, electric and acoustic guitars and voices. The music is equal part Hank Williams/the Carter Family/Johnny Cash and Pearl Jam/the Sex Pistols/The Smiths. The Brethren are often compared to 16 Horsepower and Slim Cessna’s Auto Club.
