Description:
The Mile High Jazz Band (MHJB), a 17 member "big band," including 16 instrumentalists and a female vocalist, has been performing together since 1997. The group features music in the Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Woody Herman tradition, as well as more contemporary styles, selected from a repertoire of more than 100 tunes. They play ballads, high-powered jazz tunes, and dance music for community events, fundraisers, dances, receptions, private parties, and in concert. They won "Best Band" award in 2002 "Taste of Downtown." In 2003, they were selected for a national Continental Harmony project. New York composer Lisa DeSpain is writing a work for them. In 2004, MHJB co-produced the "Basie @ 100" Jazz Festival.
