Including a summer with current Still Free drummer/percussionist Mark Baumann. When Steve was twenty-six he joined Freeze The Hopper and played exstensively with the band throughout the nineties. In Freeze The Hopper Steve played with His brother Jim drummer, and his cousin Steve Shaw guitarist/singer/songwriter. In 1996 the song entitled "Violets at Night" was voted the #1 rock song 10th Annual St. Louis Music Contest sponsered by Blueberry Hill Records. In 1998 Freeze The Hopper released their cd "Burn", recorded at Night Cafe Studio. After Freeze The Hopper Steve played with The Dean Evans Band. With Dean he played cover tunes for about one year. Playing at many clubs around town. At the same time getting back in touch with his old friends Ron and Mark. After years of writing and hard work they started Still Free.

RON GRUSKA: Guitar.... Ron started playing guitar when he was eleven. Ron played with Steve Fowler and his brother Jim. Ron’s influences were bands like Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey and many others. He to played at the infamous Purple Haze Bar. Owned and operated by his grandfather "Big Daddy". Ron dabbled with the guitar for a few more years only to put it down for school. Ron went to St. Louis University and after graduating went to work as a chemist. In the summer of 1999 Steve Fowler acquired Ron’s old Custom Electra. After a little work to the vintage guitar, Steve gave it to Ron as a gift. In the hopes of reuniting them back together. As you can see it worked. Ron started playing again after many years of not playing. And currently is the guitarist for Still Free.

Mark owns and operates Mountain Dog Studios where Still Free is currently in pre-production of their first album.

Still Free was formed in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. In remembrance of all the innocent lives lost on that terrible day. So remember them always and remember no matter what anybody does to us we are Still Free.
