With off-beat compositions that they lovingly refer to as Hard Rock Candy, the guys and gals of Mang, have been playing the Pacific Northwest since their conception in early 2001. Consisting of close friends; Missy, Laylah, Bill, and Rick, Mang’s sense of humor and tongue-in-cheek song writing have become a favorite of countless local peers. Mang released its first full-length album, ‘Mangled’, in 2002 which consisted of 10 raw and fresh songs, mirroring the beginnings of any great rock band. They have been featured on KHTQ, Rock 94.5, and are currently in rotation on KYRS, Thin Air Radio, and Sun Radio, an internet music web site.
In 2004, Mang released its second full-length magnum opus, ‘La Cosa Nostra’, at a sold out show to hundreds of eager fans. The songs, which remain full of satire, give great incite as to how the band has matured and become family. Mang is frequently requested to open for national acts. However, the band holds their own on local and area-wide shows and has numerous open invitations for travel. Their website, www.heymang.com, hosts a variety of material including a news section about the band, photos, a short bio, forum, mp3 links, and more. As the website documents their assent, it grows more and more popular each week. In fact, it has received over 30, 000 hits in one day.
Mang’s biggest fortune would have to be the long term relationships between all of its members. Each musician has been involved in many different musical ventures with one another for the past 10 years and it seems as though fate has brought them back together for this project.
Bill’s furious drumming technique is solid and Laylah’s bass playing feels like an extended component of the bottom end. Together they hold down the meat of each song. Rick and Missy’s guitar interplay surge with richness and flavor into the lyrics of all three vocalists. These musicians are a inspirational compliment to one another. It would seem that there is no stopping the joy-ride that the fantastic four have taken. They are well on their way to entering the studio once again to bring another full-length record of their refreshing Hard Rock Candy to life. Catch them at a venue near you.
