Description:
Funk 'n' Gumbo

Funk 'n' Gumbo is one of the funkiest and musically adventurous bands in Northeastern Pennsylvania. They play some of the “fonkiest” music ever heard in that region and have been gaining fans steadily over the last four years. Formed in 2002, the band drew the basis for their music from the streets and clubs of The Crescent City, performing New Orleans-style funk, blues and swamp boogie.

Funk ‘n’ Gumbo evokes the spirit and sounds of Congo Square, the Maple Leaf Bar and the Rock and Bowl. A reviewer noted, the band’s “...killer grooves and polished musicianship made for a mix as zesty a big plate of red beans and rice." Their musicianship and rhythmic syncopation makes the music very, very “Fonky” with their ability to lock in a groove and trade tasty solos around it. Funk ‘n’ Gumbo imparts those infectious rhythms with their original songs as well as renditions of funky NOLA/ Louisiana classics. After the band’s set at Michael Arnone’s Crawfish Festival, POCONOTES reported that… “They are NOT to be missed. Their "covers" are excellent and, if you can believe it, their original stuff is better!”

The band performs at music festivals, fairs, clubs and private & corporate events throughout the Northeast… and beyond. They’ve shared the bill with such acts as the Dirty Dozen Brass, Marcia Ball, Band, Rebirth Brass Band, The Radiators, the legendary Little Feat and many more.

Band Members:
Lead singer Bob McCartney’s provides bluesy vocals and precision harmonica work. The rhythm section of bassist Bill Coleman and drummer Austin Krashnak evoke reminders of the Neville Brothers syncopated New Orleans R&B style. Guitarist David Anderson provides some very funky rhythm and ripping jazz influenced lead guitar work. Rick Belza’s Hammond and keyboard work weaves its way through the rhythms and Jack Mead’s dynamic sax work cuts right though to the funk!
