Description:
Originally formed as an acoustic trio, Barabbas Free slowly crept out of their Manayunk basement, picked up a horn section and became one of Philadelphia's best Rocksteady Reggae bands. Early sets showcased strong original material alongside covers by heroes such as Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, Sam and Dave, Bob Dylan, Toots and the Maytals, The Rolling Stones, The Clash, Smokey Robinson and Chuck Berry. Barabbas Free’s unique blend of Reggae, R&B, and Rock and Roll has led to steady gigs in Philly, New Jersey, N.Y., and D.C. Since forming, they've grown from playing some of Philly’s smallest pubs to Philly’s biggest clubs such as the TLA and Electric Factory. They’ve shared stages with legendary reggae bands such as Inner Circle, Yellowman, and Jimmy Cliff to overwhelmingly positive response. Still, they remain a favorite choice for private parties and clubs where people aren't afraid to dance. Barabbas Free considers its sound to be American Rocksteady: a distillation of the R&B, Jamaican, and Rock and Roll music that has provided a soundtrack to each of the members' lives. Their extensive catalog of diverse and road-tested material ensures that they can entertain any crowd. And win new fans wherever they play
