Description:
"Ballista - Just enough funk to get that ass shakin'. Just enough rock for the radio station." So says the Oracle of popular music. Who's that? We don't know - but who cares? Ballista will knock you down with blistering guitar riffs one minute, then feed your soul with a warm ballad the next. But either way you'll always find at least a little funk in there somewhere. Because funk is where Ballista grew up.
Band Members:
Rick DuVall: Lead Vocals
Once upon a time Rick co-founded a band known as "The Make". After eight years and many positive changes, "The Make" became what Ballista is today. Rick now writes and produces the majority of Ballista's music, and is the creative driving force behind the band. With musical influences from such front men as Anthony Kiedis, Mike Patton, and Nick Hexum, Rick delivers a knock out performance and can carry an audience in the palm of his hand. Thomas Fullery: Lead Guitar/ Backing Vocals
Five years ago Thomas left his home on Stewart Island, just off the coast of New Zealand to pursue musical opportunities in the US. Once here Thomas became a hired gun (he didn't shoot anyone) for the southwestern music scene and worked as a contract guitar player. After touring with over twelve bands and playing on numerous albums Thomas felt it was time for something he could call his own -- Ballista. Thomas brings a unique blend of catchy pop licks and euro-rock chops from learning songs by James Iha, Ricky Wooten, and The Edge. Thomas is a true professional and brings a charismatic touch to Ballista's stage show. Kyle Bailey: Drums
A true blue American and a native of Oklahoma, Kyle spent the majority of his school years in drum line, jazz band, and was even voted to All-State percussion three years in a row. After graduating, Kyle had moderate success in the local market playing with six bands over the course of eight years but never found his niche. With influences such as Carter Beauford, Chad Smith, and Dennis Chambers, Kyle is a perfect fit for Ballista. Karthik JN: Bass
Completing the rhythm section is Karthik. Karthik came to the US in 2000 from Hyderabad, India. After several moves around the country, he came in for a smooth landing right in Ballista's backyard. Karthik's strong drive to succeed and his skill at playing bass made him a shoe-in when Ballista decided to expand to a four-piece. Since then Karthik has faithfully maintained the ever-present, if sometimes subtle, element of funk.
