Description:
Quarterlife has emerged from the bowels of Lower Michigan to prove a simple point that music doesn't have to be created in a test tube and genetically engineered or cloned to fit in any pre-formulated mold. Musicians and poets that know how to manipulate their abilities to create songs for the masses have joined forces to drive Quarterlife down the throats, eyes and ears of anyone who may be in the path, waiting patiently for something to arise. Quarterlife is a blend of several different styles including rock, reggae, hip- hop, punk and pop. This project has been described as sounding like alternative rock enriched by the sun. Yet another account describes the sound to be "born and bred in Detroit but vacationing in southern California."

If you love music you'll love Quarterlife.

Band Members:
Music has gone through various changes in previous years. From the reincarnation of boy band projects to popularizing hip-hop and country to suit the masses tastes. But what is the general consensus of music fans throughout the world? Can this be tabulated in a poll or a research study? Music reflects reality, and life imitates art…..At least that’s how the saying goes. If the first part is true, then reality has gone through an ice age of sorts, with only various talents rising above the cold chasms of conformity. Fortunately humans are remarkably resilient, and despite the state of entertainment in the past years, we humans have bounced back to what really matters…..quality music, meaningful lyrics, and an honest image that conveys the Real World without 8 horribly inconsiderate roommates. QUARTERLIFE has recently transpired to prove to anyone appreciating the previous qualities that five people with a similar vision can add to the foundation of rock that is emerging yet once again. With all of the ingredients QUARTERLIFE has to offer the cauldron, it is not surprising that so many audience members are eager for the next taste of what is to come.

This project was originally formulated from its charter members, Scott (vocals) and Ray (guitar). These two have collaborated in composing and creating music of different genres for ten years. Sustaining a band for long periods of time is a bittersweet tug of war that hundreds of musicians around the globe can relate to. Egos, determination, vices and schedules are some of the obstacles bands hope to overcome during their inceptions. Ray and Scott have managed to find a common ground on the most fundamental element of a music project, and that is, the love of creating, polishing, enhancing, recording and performing music. Scott has a love for lyrics that can reach deeper into ones psyche than a shrink can for a patient under severe hypnotic therapy. Intertwining new theories and old formulations of words into a Bunsen burner, heated from the soul. Scott’s range can be seen in songs such as “Simplicity” “Let Go” and “Chance.” If a gritty tone is what you crave, his range and energy can scrape the lowest octave, while modestly bringing choruses to a crest of anger and anxiety. Scott has been known around the area for the ability to bring songs to life and the determination to bring anything he is involved in to the top. Five minutes with this vocalist will have you enlisted and practicing in the QUARTERLIFE religion and way of life.

Working concurrently with the ethics of guitarology, Ray demonstrates on stage and in the studio that crunch is still alive in Rock and Roll. Ray’s goal in music is not only to drive rhythm and tone down your throat, but also to demonstrate that arrangement and differentiation has its place in this galaxy. The guitar serves as the engine block for QUARTERLIFE, bringing its 8-cylinder power full throttle in songs like “Pull the Plug” and “Simplicity”. Channeled through various effects and patches, Ray manages to make the guitar speak for itself, while aiding it in its diction and annunciation. For the last 10 years, these two members have composed upwards of 50 finished songs, and have learned to see things through the same filters and perspectives. Many of the songs heard on their newest release entitled, “Ride” have been in the making since earlier years. What has made them come to life are the other three members of QUARTERLIFE that have shared the dream of riding the wave to wherever it takes them.

Surfing on a Fender Sunburst Jazz bass, Mike’s history goes as far back as a fishing cast mistakenly caught by the wind. Mike has been putting the backbone into music since he was in High School. The tone he creates for QUARTERLIFE is unmistakably his creation from some underworld of low tones that he ended up in years ago. He has played through vintage amplifiers and various bases to cultivate his sound. In person, Mike is the band member that keeps this project lighter with every joke and imitation. On stage, he is the most focused on delivering a package that will blow your ass to fucking kingdom come….or was that just his amplifier turned up too loud. Either way, he has what it takes to bring this wave crashing over any Rock Music fanatic.

Bringing the meter and drive to QUARTERLIFE is Drew, the drummer. A limitless amount of energy can be heard on any track of “Ride,” Quarterlife’s first release. Rolls, triplets, double bass, hit-hat maneuvers and hard-hitting snares are all brought forth with the aid of Drew. During any live show, any drum fan will have their eyes and ears glued to the black drum set with a pilot straight out of hell driving the set into a flaming ball of fiery rock and roll. QUARTERLIFE is backed with the ammo to take out any music filtering nation and Drew is there to suicide bomb any Rock hating protester.

Here to put the finishing touches on this rock recipe is Don, the band’s turntabelist and sound effects maker. Don has been creating music and mixing his creations for many years and relies on many technological breakthroughs to bring his sound to the next generation. Mixing his dedication and creativity into a drink that could knock a llama on its ass, Don proves to turn this project repeatedly clockwise, back, forwards, then back again until it grooves with the needle.

All in all, QUARTERLIFE has emerged from the bowels of Lower Michigan to prove a simple point that music doesn’t have to be created in a test tube and genetically engineered and cloned to fit any pre-formulated mold. Musicians and poets that know how to manipulate their abilities to create songs for the masses have joined forces to drive QUARTERLIFE down the throats, eyes and ears of anyone who may be in the path, waiting patiently for something to arise.
