Description:
Formed in the Fall of 2003, Soundevice is a straight forward rock group featuring Erik Rogers, Jason Grover, Cheney Brannon, Craig Maule, and Billy Grey. After having many bands, Erik joined Stereomud with two major label releases Perfect Self, and Every Given Moment (Columbia Records), followed with several successful U.S. tours. After parting with Columbia Records in the summer of 2003, Erik decided that he wasn't done with the music business. Erik and Craig wanted to collaborate on a side project when Erik wasn't on the road with Stereomud. At the time, Craig was winding down a regional tour with a band called 420 Monks and wanted to start something new. Erik and Craig got together with longtime friend, Cheney (drummer), and started jamming on some material. Erik and Cheney had played together before so the chemistry was solid. Cheney brought in his guitarist, Jason, from Bend (Roadrunner Records), and together they wrote several songs within a matter of days. Two months later, Billy Grey from Sickspeed/Fozzy Method 51, joined Soundevice as the second guitarist. In the short time since they finalized their line-up, Soundevice has performed shows all over the southeastern United States. Here’s a list of shows to date: New Orleans Voodoofest 2003(Iggy Pop, Marilyn Manson, Staind, 50 Cent and Cypress Hill), Z100’s Indiez Only, January 2004 tour with Collective Soul, WJRR 101.5 earthday Birthday Festival and Myrtle Beach Bike Week 2004. Soundevice is out supporting their recent debut record, “The World Goes ‘Round.” For tour dates and more information, go to www.soundevice.net
Band Members:
Lead Vocalist/Erik Rogers Erik’s reputation as a vocalist is renowned throughout the United States. Erik recalls, "I was definitely the black sheep of the family," as he comes from a family of respected medical professionals. Erik performed with Stereomud (Loud/Columbia) for over four years. Their debut album, Perfect Self, was recorded by producers Don Gilmore (Linkin Park, Lit) and Rick Parashar (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam) and mixed by Jay Baumgardner. Stereomud toured successfully with the likes of Crazy Town, Nonpoint, Saliva and Sevendust. Stereomud headlined the "Pain & Suffering" tour with Endo, Spike 1000 & Flybanger. Stereomud also did “Music as a Weapon" tour with Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Adema, & Systematic.
Stereomud’s sophomore release, Every Given Moment, featured the riveting single "Breathing.” They re-emerged on the scene with the group's hardest hitting and most sophisticated music to-date. The album was produced by John Travis (Kid Rock, Hometown Heroes) and mixed by Jack Joseph Puig. After parting with Columbia Records in the summer of 2003, Erik joined forces with four musical powerhouses and a "straightforward sound," now known as Soundevice, was created.
Guitarist/Jason Grover Having several bands as a teenager and into his early 20’s, Jason knew that being a musician was his calling. In 1998 Jason started to see what being a musician was all about. He joined Bend (Roadrunner Records), dream weavers of electronic and live rock, and helped create a new style of music on the Atlanta scene. Bend opened for bands like Ministry, Powerman 5000, Drain STH, Econoline Crush, and Vast. In the end of 2001 Jason left Bend for creative differences and to explore other avenues. In the end of 2003 Jason joined Soundevice, a fresh new approach to straightforward rock.
Drummer/Cheney Brannon Cheney was introduced to the drums at age nine while visiting a friend whose father had an old drum kit. Immediately, he was hooked. On his tenth birthday, he got his own drum kit and began to beat on them like Animal from the Muppets. After tearing up the local scene, playing with numerous artists like Joseph Arthur (Real World/Virgin Records/Universal Records), and Bend (Roadrunner Records), Cheney found his niche with the new band Soundevice.
Bassist/ Craig Maule At age eleven Craig started playing the bass. He says, “It always seemed to keep me out of trouble.” By 1993, Craig had worked with Kelly Hayes, now with Cold (Flip/Interscope), and relocated from his home in Syracuse, New York to Atlanta, Georgia. Here he hoped to find a new music scene. After working with many local bands, Craig toured as the bassist for Lifer (Republic/Universal). Lifer toured with Cold and Dope on the Cutty Sark “Rock the Boat Tour,” in support of their self-titled debut album. Lifer also toured with Reveille and Saliva. Never deviating from his desire to play music, Craig became the second member and bassist for Soundevice.
Guitarist/ Billy Grey After experimenting with numerous bands, Billy’s first taste of success came with the three-piece rap-core band Method 51. Billy fronted the band as lead vocalist and sole guitarist. Relentless touring and amazing live performances helped the band develop a large and loyal fan base. P.C. Music, an independent label distributed through Atlantic Records, picked up the band and released their self-titled CD. The debut album reached the top 10 on Album Network Charts and received airplay on numerous college stations in the U.S. and Canada. Constant touring and playing with such bands as Godsmack, The Bloodhound Gang, Clutch, C.O.C., and many others, helped Method 51 reach a broad national audience. In 2001, Billy decided to put Method 51 to rest and accept the invitation from former members of Stuck Mojo to join the band SickSpeed. At the same time, Billy lent his chops on guitar to Fozzy, a band featuring WWE superstar Chris Jericho. Through this venture, Billy received national exposure playing on the Howard Stern show and performing in the Fozzy video “With the Fire,” aired on MTV, Much Music, MTV Europe and WWE Confidential. Billy joined Soundevice as the second guitarist in Oct 2003.
