The Smooth Sound of the Quiet Storm (as he's popularly known) excites and fulfills even the most discriminating musical taste through artistic orchestration, engineering and production of vocal and instrumental music stylings as diverse as our culture. Effervescent qualities of contagious excitement and enthusiasm have been the hallmark of this eclectic artist and musician. It is on the music stages of symphonic, operatic, jazz, theatrical and Houses of Worship, where Mike meticulously researched and developed his craft, cultivating his particular stylistic musical interpretations. Over 25 years of performing arts experience has provided nation-wide audiences with superlative music utilizing state-of-the-art musical instruments, professional sound reinforcement, and tasteful stage lighting, creating an intriguing atmosphere capable of captivating and enhancing even the most demanding of occasions. Having been immersed in the arts and various musical genres and demonstrating strong aptitude in classical music from a very young age, Mike began his public performance career at 12 years of age. He is very grateful to his early music education influences, Cathie Lenzini Hanks, Roy Henson, James Buchanan, Steve Comi, Sid Rosen of the Pueblo, Colorado District 60 primary education system -from Spann Elementary, Risley Jr. High to East High School. His mentors and professors at the collegiate level were Trombone and Low Brass Teachers: Paul Whitehead of the U.S. Air Force Academy Band "Airmen of Note" Larry Wiehe of the United States Air Force Band, Edwin "Buddy" Baker of University of Northern Colorado and Indiana University; Ralph Levy, S. Gilbert Garcia, Jim Duncan, Frank Cedrone, Victoria Markowski, John Strobel, George Roach, Wayman Walker-U.N.C., J.D. Folsom of the University of New Mexico at Las Cruces; as well as the Music Department faculty of the University of Northern Colorado and University of Southern Colorado(formerly Southern Colorado State College); Don and Terri Bailey-Director of Jazz Studies and bands, the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith. Their leadership, counsel, guidance and instruction, have long inspired Mike to pursue creative excellence in all his endeavors, on and off the performance stage. As a much sought-after and recognized arts and entertainment performance and recording artist, Mike performs and provides exceptionally dynamic live musical entertainment, esthetically pleasing and ambient musical environments, and is in great demand for all special occasions such as award ceremonies, banquets, conventions, concerts, fairs, festivals, tour groups, cruise ships, receptions, parties, dances, community concerts, fashion shows, fund raising galas, political rallies, trade shows, grand openings, family or academic reunions, corporate, sporting events, holiday gatherings, memorial observances, worship gatherings, and weddings where the romance is timeless and the memories last forever. His studio work with directors, producers and musicians of various cultures and musical/theatrical disciplines is quite extensive. Along with his public speaking and teaching involvement in workshops, clinics, conferences, seminars and benevolence projects, Mike has cultivated a network of key contacts in the business community throughout the United States. His goal has always been to provide exceptional quality with personalized service, exceeding client expectation through the passionate pursuit of excellence in music performance and production.
Mike's enthusiastic involvement in personal appearances in various public and private venues with various bands, orchestras and as a soloist throughout North America and the Caribbean, has been extensive. There are a number of well known hotel chains, yacht and country clubs, vacation resorts, Blues, Jazz and Art festivals, concerts, television and radio appearances, recording studio performance and production work with a multiplicity of theatrical agencies, artistic clients and colleagues, fraternal organizations, national fund raising medical research foundations, political campaigns, and musical collaborations, with numberous studio artists and celebrities such as Sarah Ferguson-the Dutchess of York, Audrey Hepburn, Bobby Vinton, Merl Haggard, Liberace, Bill Watrous, Ernie Watts, Count Basie & Orchestra, Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, New Orleans Jazz and Dixieland artists and performers in various genres of theater and opera.
As a free-lance soloist, Mike presents a diverse combination of nostalgic moods and rhythmic tempo. Exciting excursions into decades of familiar sounds from the past to the contemporary are explored. He has incorporated luminous and exotic textures and atmospheric elements of World Music, particularly in his flute instrumental work. An ocean of sound where different cultures, identities and spirits coalesce into a new form of music, one that resonates with an almost primeval power and beauty. A unique sound that crosses many genre boundaries encompassing: Classical, Jazz, Rock , Big Band, Rhythm and Blues, Folk, Country, Ballad, Latin, Reggae, Celtic, Baroque, Renaissance, contemporary ambient soundscapes, traditional and contemporary Inspirational compositions, motion picture inspired love themes and suites. His extensive repertoire of "Music That Speaks Your Language," is best known for romantic interpretations of some of the most beautiful love songs ever written.
Mike welcomes the challenge and opportunity to explore new musical directions as well as those well traveled, to expand his artistic expression and conceptual world view. Much of his enjoyment, inspiration and motivation is derived not only from performing, and the satisfaction his audiences enjoy, but from collaborative cultural efforts with creative artists from differing musical styles and disciplines. In 1982, Michael’s nomination and acceptance for national recognition of Outstanding Young American profiled his outstanding professional achievements, superior leadership ability and exceptional service to the community. On occasion, Mike has appears regularly with "Mr. Cabbagehead & the Screaming Radishes of Ft. Smith, Arkansas
About Mr. Cabbagehead & The Screaming Radishes: For over 20 years Mr. Cabbagehead and the Screaming Radishes have been Arkansas and Oklahoma’s favorite "good-times" party band. The nine piece rhythm and blues band have two albums to their credit, but like Jack Mack and the Heart Attach on the West Coast, The Boogie Kings, in the South or the Flippers in the Midwest, it is their thousands of personal appearances that fuel their loyal fans. “The Cabbageheads” as they are known by their fans are nine seasoned musicians who can play literally anything and have great time doing it. Led by founders, Bubba Carter ,Tommy Cunningham and Mr. Cabbagehead, Ricky Young, the Cabbageheads have the horn section and vocals to do favorites such as almost anything by Chicago, Delbert McClinton, The Temptations, Sam and Dave, James Brown, Billy Joel, Jackie Wilson, Tower of Power, Four Seasons, Ike and Tina Turner etc. In fact, in their younger days, many of the Cabbageheads toured with the above mentioned groups and only found each other as they thought they were entering musical semi-retirement in western Arkansas.
Today, Mr. Cabbagehead and the Screaming Radishes play a schedule of outdoor festivals, and company conventions and leave astonished listeners wondering why they’d never been to a Cabbagehead Party before. The Cabbageheads are: Steve “Bubba” Carter, Tommy Cunningham, Ricky Young, Mike Lenzini, Ronnie Thomas, Steve Clark, Larry Mathews, John Henley, and Harley Vinsant.
Definition: Cabbage n. A common kitchen garden vegetable, about as large and wise as a man's.......
“Screaming Radishes”..they’re not just a band, they’re a legend in “Vegetable Related Rock” -Lynn Wasson, "Entertainment Ft. Smith Magazine"
"Mr. Cabbagehead & the Screaming Radishes" is a uniquely audience focused, highly-energized redesign of roots influences, creating relevant, enduring rock 'n roll extensions of Stax, Motown, and Rhythm & Blues. This music ensemble is based out of Fort Smith, Arkansas, USA. “Mr. Cabbage Head & the Screaming Radishes” rise to the southwest music scene began in a garage in 1984, when a group of “thirty-something” high school friends got together on a Sunday afternoon. Each of them had aspired to be “musicians” in high school in some form or fashion, but their varied lives and occupations had vanished those dreams. However, on that afternoon, being together again and remembering the old songs of the sixties and seventies, and tapping on a set of old drums and an organ that had gathered dust over the years, those dreams began to reappear.
On that Sunday afternoon, a group of friends with at least one thing still in common after all those years, began to put together a sound that has become one of the most popular music sensations in the Southwest. “The Cabbage Heads” as the band is commonly called by fans, is a 9-piece show/dance band featuring a horn section with trumpets, saxophone, trombones and flute. This is a high energy band featuring music from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s, specializing in private parties, class reunions, wedding receptions, company parties, etc.
The band has performed over a 7-state area - Arkansas, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Mississippi, Kansas, Missouri, and Louisiana - for the past 21 years, and has opened shows for RARE EARTH, ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION, BOBBY “BLUE” BLAND and JAN & DEAN.
This heralded musical ensemble are members of the AR Arts Council "Arts on Tour Roster 2005-2006" - The Arkansas Arts on Tour roster provides a list of many of our state's finest solo and ensemble performers, individual visual artists, and prepared art exhibitions available for touring within Arkansas.

10-17-09 Mike recently performed with Chuck and Louann King in Van Buren AR for the world-release of Chuck King's latest CD release: "The Feast of Tabernacles, an evening of Worship with Chuck King." The "Release Concert" for Chuck's new album, held in Van Buren Arkansas last weekend, was tremendous success, and blessing!A true "release" and outpouring of the Spirit occurred, launching a new season in Chuck's ministry. We'd like to share with you just a few of the comments we've received:
"I wanted to personally thank you for your performance on Saturday night. It was a real blessing to me and my family. I brought my mother, and she does not come to church. She moved to the area 1 1/2 years ago and I just can't seem to get her in the door. However, she agreed to come to your concert, and I know she was moved by the Holy Spirit. During the concert, she was singing along, raising her hands in praise to the lord, and even dancing at certain points. Please help me in praying that your performance is the catalyst for her new Christian life.
I'm so thankful you asked those in the audience who had a prodigal come home to pray for someone who is still waiting. I was able to put my arm around a couple and pray with confidence that our God hears and answers prayers. To you I say "Be encouraged, don't lose heart, you will reap if you faint not." I am praying for you and your prodigal
Thank you for Saturday night and Sunday morning. It seems these days all I do is cry when we worship through music.
We have a son who is experiencing depression and anger. He will not allow anyone to help him at this point. We were encouraged Saturday night at the number of people (parents) who were willing to stand and are hurting as we are. Again, thank you for such as blessing this past weekend.
I just wanted to tell you thanks for the invite to your concert. I was excited to be introduced to a new culture of Christian music. Everything was good and I believe God was glorified! This area will greatly benefit from the education in diversity of worship that you can provide. It helps us to examine more closely how we define worship and how God intends us to worship Him.
So hard to know just how to recover from such a powerful weekend! THANK YOU SO MUCH for receiving us so warmly this weekend and letting us be a part of such a move of the Spirit of God! This was an honor for our whole family from beginning to end! Last night felt so much like I imagine the Feast in Jerusalem might be! It was glorious! We love you and your family so very much, brother! May the Lord bless your ministry more now than ever before, and may He further reveal his plans to your heart.
The concert and just the whole trip to Arkansas was amazing!!! I can't wait to do that again!
We're also very excited to report that after only one week of release, the album charted at #89 in the top 100 Christian Recordings in America! This is a very significant breakthrough for an album listed in the "messianic" genre!
The album, THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES (former working title O, Jerusalem) is now available directly from our website www.chuckking.org at a special introductory price of $12.95.
