Mica’s Groove Train is what happens when a group of talented and internationally renowned musicians who really enjoy creating music together meet . With a unique lyrical style and melodic sound, blended with a superior rhythm section, Mica’s Groove Train produces feel good sounds to make your hips sway and your smile widen. This is a band that has as great of an experience as you do and will have you coming back to groove and groove, and groove some more.
Band Members:
Yamica Peterson -- Vocals/Percussion Yamica was born in Portsmouth, NH. She is the oldest granddaughter of Jean M. Jones, Portsmouth’s ‘Lady of Song’. At age 3, she gave her first performance and has been singing ever since. This singer/songwriter can be found performing all over the seacoast with her father, Pete Peterson. She has shared the stage with many of southern NH’s local artists, and has had the distinct pleasure of providing background vocals for Dave Gerard on his most recent album, ‘The Zoomy Trail’. Her current projects are ‘Groove Train’, ‘Family Affair’ and ‘Rhythm Method’. Musical influences for Yamica include India Arie, Jill Scott, Hil St. Soul, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin, Erika Badu and Oleta Adams.
Chad Owen -- Bass Chad tours international with Mighty Sam McClain, and plays with many regional bands. Past bands Chad has performed in are, Rhythm Method, Harpoon, and Circle. He is also a very active session player, available for your recording needs. Chad plays Fender, Spector and G&l basses, Eden & SWR bass cabs, Qsc power amps, Tech 21 pre-amps, Monster cables, Modern cases, D’addario strings and Boss & Fulltone effects. Chad is an Eden endorser. Some musical influences are John Paul Jones, Frank Zappa, Weather Report, Miles Davis, Chuck Rainey, Jaco Pastorious, Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, James Brown, and Cacao
Jim Dozet -- Guitar (B.M. in Jazz Performance, University of New Hampshire) Jim has taught master classes in funk guitar styles at S.Y.M.S (Summer Youth Music School) and makes regular appearances at UNH giving lectures and running clinics for the guitar students there. In addition to playing guitar for Groove Train and maintaining a busy teaching schedule, Jim also performs regularly both locally and regionally with various groups. One notable group Jim performs with is the 7 piece hip-hop band, The Press Project. While performing with this group, Jim played at The Bonnaroo music festival, and shared the stage with acts such as Soulive, George Clinton and The Parliament Funkadelic, Robert Randolph, The Roots, Slick Rick, etc. Jim also performs frequently with his own project, The Jim Dozet Group playing both original music and select covers. Jim has an eclectic and versatile teaching style.
Rick Page -- Drums After serving his country by playing in the United States Air Force Band, Rick stayed in Los Angles and played about 250 gigs a year for more than a decade. He played jazz, fusion and funk at the clubs at night and by day he was lucky enough to play on several records and movie soundtracks. While in LA he studied with drummers such as Dave Garibaldi (Tower Of Power) and Gregg Bissonette (studio great) and recorded with such notables as Abe Laboriel, Brandon Fields and Roland Katandig. Since moving back to New England, Rick still enjoys playing as many gigs as possible. Besides being the drummer for Groove Train, he also plays drums for blues legend Mighty Sam McClain.
