Description:
Play Like Randy, (the origin of the name variously attributed to an obscure Billy Bob Thorton movie, the aroused state of a particular Australian woman, or Ozzy’s legendary guitarist in the 80’s) started like this: four schoolyard friends, who’d never jammed a note together in their lives, years later ended up in the same town. The two guitar players, bassist and drummer actually put their beer induced “let’s jam sometime” talk to work and began to play in one guitar player’s basement, much to the chagrin of his wife. The fun soon gave way to obsessed songwriting, tone, guitar layering and vintage rock and roll energy.
When you come to your first PLR show, you will experience the full range of emotion their music brings to the audience. The rhythmic energy, fractured lyrics, and “likely to wreck” guitar play will make you wonder if you are going to make it through their set intact. Their influences are wide mix between the Cure, Sonic Youth, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Interpol, and the Rolling Stones.
It might hurt… the guitars are crushingly loud with shimmering distortion, the drummer swings the sticks like twin mallets, and yet, the bass player somehow keeps it all glued together. If you like taking educated gambles and can’t wait for your next adrenaline rush, PLR’s combination of vintage, indie, and progressive rock might just be the soundtrack for you. If you find yourself dancing around in a circle with your eyes closed, you’ll know for sure.
Play Like Randy has just recorded their first album, and is in the process of writing for the second, while they gig throughout the winter to pay for the production and duplication of their first record. See you at the show,
Play Like Randy
