Band Members:
Nathan Turvey has gained regional acclaim for his powerful vocal performances. His band, The Fifth, regularly brought nearly full-houses of fans in venues across the Knoxville area. Nathan also accepted an invitation to perform for East Tennessee Idol, where he won second place. According to Nathan, "The most comfortable place for me is behind a microphone. I'm usually a laid-back, low-key kind of guy, but with a mic in my hand, I'm a totally different person. When you ask Nathan about his influences, he reflects, "There is a little piece of everyone that I've ever met or heard inside of me." As for the future, he adds, "I hope to rise up to my dreams and help each and every one of my band members in Dead Star Prophecies succeed."
Kenny Smith graduated from Berklee College of Music with a degree in professional music. After graduation, Kenny toured the Northeast with the heavy funk-fusion rock band Jiggelscreen. He then relocated to Atlanta and toured with the Southern blues-funk band Jellyroll. With Jellyroll, Kenny opened for such acts as The Dave Mathews Band, Hootie & the Blowfish, and Blues Traveler, among others. In 1995, Kenny formed Alpha Zulu, a Knoxville, Tennessee-based rock band which toured the Southeast, and won First Place in the regional finals of the 2000 Jim Beam Band Search. In addition to Alpha Zulu, Kenny joined Shaken Babies, regionally known for their tecno-retro-folktronica. According to Smith, "Now I find myself in the best band yet ‹ Dead Star Prophecies. This is the most creative and comfortable band I've ever been in. It's a dream band!"
Wayne Castleberry is joining forces with Nathan and former members of Alpha Zulu and Shaken Babies on bass. Wayne started playing guitar at age 12, started his first band at 14, and founded the regionally successful band, Damn Good Biscuits at 17. For eleven years, Damn Good Biscuits created and sustained a large following and played venues as Gigs, Rumors, Uncle Sams, Lighthouse Pub, Rose Eddie's Lounge, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Warehouse Pub, Buffalo Grille, The Prince Deli, Longbranch Saloon, and ZBoogies. Wayne's influences include Iron Maiden, Nine Inch Nails, and Tool, among many others.
Blake Womack has been playing guitar since he was 14-years-old. Blake's influences are Mike Patton, John Frusciante, The Misfits, and any zombie movie made in the 80's. Blake was a co-founder of Alpha Zulu, where he distinguished himself regionally as a guitarist with a unique intuition and a compelling on-stage presence. Blake studied jazz guitar for three years, and was a student of the influential Tim Holbert for four years.
Steven McBride's background in music, dance, theatre, and animation has been essential to his unique performances on keyboard. Steven was a co-founder of the group, Shaken Babies, known for their idiosyncratic musical approach, vivid post-modern sensibilities, and delightful live performances. Steven's influences include John Lennon, David Bowie, and David Byrne.
