Description:
The Sax Maniacs are a four-piece band out of the Detroit area, performing a mix of funky cover tunes and special original material off their new CD titled, Will The Last One Out Of Detroit Please Turn Out The Lights! Their style is a cross between super cool swingin’ sax tunes from the 50’s & 60’s like Peter Gun, Honky Tonk and Night Train to classic rock and Motown hits like Ain’t To Proud To Beg, Mustang Sally and I Feel Good by James Brown. The band incorporates cool brass with lots of burnin’ guitar with one of the hottest rhythm sections in the Motor City.

The Sax Maniacs have shared the stage with the likes of Blues legend A.C. Reed and Grandy Ballroom hero, Dick Wagner & The Frost and have performed on some of Detroit’s finest stages including The MGM Casino, The Greektown Casino and the Hard Rock Café. Some recent highlights for the band have been performing at the legendary Emerald Theater as a finalist in the 2006 Motor City Blues Challenge plus at the Woodward Dream Cruise and Pontiac’s Arts, Beats and Eats festivals.

The band’s up-tempo, sax driven blues, quoted in the press as being, the new sound of today’s Motown, has excited Motor City fans at festivals and concerts for over five years now and with the release of their new CD, The Sax Maniacs are looking to reach a much wider audience via national airplay and a highly paced performance schedule. Our motto is: The Best Sax You’ll Ever Have!

Band Members:
Our new CD is called, “WILL THE LAST ONE OUT OF DETROIT PLEASE TURN OUT THE LIGHTS!” The CD was recorded by Mike Boulan at the prestigious No Cover Productions Studio in Oak Park, MI. The CD features not only the Sax Maniacs band members but also some other local notables in the Motor City music industry such as: Mark Pasman: guitarist & host of The Motor City Blues Project, which airs every Sunday night on WCSX-FM. Bugs Beddow: award winning trombonist featured in The bugs Beddow Band. Jeztor: Detroit Music Award winner & harp player from the band Social Distortion. Paul Miles: beloved Detroit Blues singer & banjo player featured on a number of our songs. Luther Keith: vocalist & entertainment feature writer for The Detroit News. Phil Bryant: bassist and vocalist formally from the mega 80’s rock band, 707. Phil sang the classic rock song, “I Could Be Good For You” and is featured as vocalist on many of the CD’s original tunes. The CD showcases the extraordinary instrumental and vocal talents of The Sax Maniacs with ten original tunes written by Steve Dansby-guitarist and Dave Daniele-sax, keys and lead vocalist. The songs feature a unique cross blend between heavy guitar riffs and hard hitting sax solos along with what the band calls the New Sound of Motown, blues and R & B edgy dance tunes with catchy pop style lyrics. The sound also has a fun New Orleans style swing feel and then gets down right Voodoo dirty as if you are sluggin’ through a swamp, knee deep in marsh mud with Alligators and Witchy Women nipping at your heels. Part of what makes this CD so fantastic is the mix master talents of long time blues recording maestro, Mike Boulan of No Cover Productions. He used multiple mics for the bass and bass drum giving the music a super bottom end and recorded many multiple guitar parts, which thicken the sound and adds deep texture to the overall mix. The vocals stand out and are not buried like many song releases put out lately and the solos are beautifully recorded capturing the true essence of The Sax Maniacs sound. I am inviting you into The Sax Maniacs world by taking a listen to, WILL THE LAST ONE OUT OF DETROIT PLEASE TURN OUT THE LIGHTS! We feel this is one of the best CD’s to come from the Motown in a long time.
