Description:
A six-piece outfit from Washington, D.C., The Groaning plays gothic rock culled from punk, Celtic and classical elements, weaving voice, strings, wind and rhythm into driving, soul-wringing musical tapestries that explore humanity’s desire to know the divine. They have performed in Washington, D.C., with Faith and the Muse and South Africa’s The Awakening.
Band Members:
Padraic Geddes is a classically trained violinist with a penchant for gothic rock, symphonies and Celtic fiddle tunes. He has also written and performed violin tracks on Todesbonden's Stormbringer.
Charon Powers, on vocals, has a style has been likened to Eva O, Gitane Demone and Johnette Napolitano.
Claire Geddes is a classically trained flutist who adds haunting, yet down-to-earth, melodies to the upper registers.
The Gravemaster, Arthur Graves, on 6- and 12-string rhythm guitar was a member of DC-based Bastille and MindShaft before joining us.
Bassist Prosector's love for Eastern European death/black/goth metal and intricate bass lines is only superseded by his fight for election freedom in his home country, Ukraine.
Paul Fraunfelter – the "GothFather" – is a former U.S. Marine Band member and drummer for Mindshaft and Bastille. He has been crafting complex rhythms since before most of us were born, hence his honorary title.
