Description:
The Rhythm Dawgs are a band made up of four guys from completely different corners of the musical universe. Take a blues influenced bass player, team him up with a Bob Wills loving drummer. Add a GIT educated lead guitarist, and throw in another guitar

Band Members:

Dana Vandiver - Electric & acoustic guitars, slide guitar, lead vocals
Dana hails from the bustling metropolis of Groves, Texas, where he learned to play guitar at an early age by watching Hee Haw on television. He later improved on his craft by attending the Guitar Institute of Technology where he graduated with honors.

Dana's influences run the gamut from B.B. King to King?s X, and names the most influential album in his life as Bachman-Turner Overdrive?s ?Not Fragile?.

Ken Carver - 6 & 12-string electric guitars, acoustic guitar, talk box, vocals
Ken was born at a very early age in the North Texas town of Corsicana, a city best known for its fruitcakes (from Collin Street Bakery that is). He started out playing piano at age 8, but quickly discovered that it was difficult to jump around while wearing one around your neck. So, with the help of a cousin, he switched to guitar. "Actually, he showed me two chords and left for a date. I had to figure the rest out myself" says Ken.

Ken is quick to name Uriah Heep and Grand Funk Railroad and his major influences. "The first albums I ever owned were 'The Magician?s Birthday' and 'Phoenix'. Those are still two of my favorites". Over the years he's shared the stage with bands such as Foghat, BTO, Head East, and Steppenwolf.

Frank Calcagni - 4 and 5-string basses, vocals
Frank is one of the founding members of the Rhythm Dawgs. Upon deciding some years ago that bass guitar was his instrument, Frank immersed himself in the Austin blues scene. After going to a lot of open mic sessions, Frank found a musical soul-mate in drummer Bill Asa.

Frank has an extremely varied taste when it comes to music. While he acknowledges such blues greats as Willie Dixon and Muddy Waters, it?s the Austin music scene itself that has shaped Frank's playing the most.

Bill Asa - Drums, percussion, vocals
Bill is the "musicologist" of the band...at one time or another he's listened to or played just about everything out there. He?s one of those rare musicians who could sit in with a country swing band in the afternoon, play with a jazz trio at a dinner club, and then do a couple of sets of rock and roll all in the same day. Bill has named everyone from Bob Wills to the Beatles as having an impact on his playing.

Bill is the other founding member of the Rhythm Dawgs. After moving to Austin from Ft. Worth a "while back", fate brought him to the Texas Bar & Grill the night Frank Calcagni was looking for a drummer. Apparently, it was a good match. "I liked Frank's playing from the start" says Bill, "and as long as he doesn't play too many notes, he can hang around".
