Description:
The Royal Noise is an instrumentally driven jazz/funk outfit hailing from Savannah, GA. Drawing from myriad influences, from Soulive to Medeski Martin & Wood to Prince to Led Zeppelin to Galactic, the result is an edgy, ebullient fusion of soul, funk, jazz, rock and hip hop elements with a distinctly southern flavor. Combining familiar throwback grooves with a modern sonic palette, Royal Noise is both organic and synthetic, sophisticated yet swanky, familiar yet altogether refreshing.
The group pushes the instrumental envelope. They feature guest musicians, extended improvisations and even bust out didjeridu jams. They have performed in a variety of scopes, from lighter smooth jazz sets to hard, grooving funk parties. In a very short time they have established themselves around the Savannah and Tybee areas as being a formidable, high energy act and bringing instrumentally driven music back into the spotlight.
Band Members:
The Royal Noise is composed of Johan Harvey (voted best local funk guitarist by Connect Savannah's 'Best Of' 2010), Lonnie Coulter (organ and synth wizard from NC), Darius Shepherd on bass ('Best Bass', LiveWire's Battle of The Bands 2009) and the incredibly kinetic drummer Vuk Pavlovic (Nature's Pocket, Skylite Jazz Band, A Nickel Bag of Funk, Luke Sky of Fashion).
