Blount Harvey is an electric, extraordinary 10-piece live hip-hop & soul group established in Greenville, N.C. with a unique sound, blending fusions of traditional hip-hop, soul & funk. Artists such as A Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, James Brown & Jill Scott represent branches of the roots Blount Harvey's music seeks to reconnect with. The up & coming group is famed for freely borrowing old-school hip- hop grooves & putting an original flavor of their own to re-create the deep traditions of early 90's hip- hop & its socially relevant lyricism expressive of complicated subject matter; influenced by the sole foundations of soul, funk & jazz improvisation. (Note… this is not crunk music!)

The momentum of Blount Harvey's 2009 Tour is recruiting a more powerful army of fans & followers than ever before; tearing up every spot they hit... & they don't seem to be stopping anytime soon. From Atlanta to Baltimore, Philly to NYC, & a performance scheduled at this years 8th annual FloydFest Revival festival this June in Floyd, VA as part of the "Under the Radar" Artist Series -- the band is truly creating a name for themselves, with ease.

Keyboardist MadShah and dynamo drummer illWill perform with musicianship at premium; laying the expressive rhythmic foundation for the soundscape with a texturized background. Guitarist Nigel Cheeks delivers skillful solos and radiating riffs, known for keeping the sound in check. DJ JohnBeez gets the "one-up" from turntablists and live musicians alike: a 'side-man scratch wiz' feeding off various tricks of the trade and creating cuts with his own professional techniques. Trumpeter Jon Caison, The Professor - provides effortlessly deep grooves alongside saxophonist John Freeman, The Student. Fronting the band are two vocalists: emcee extraordinaire MC Rudolph Lyrics, and the group's newest soul-stress; certified siren TyKee. This hyper-smart, high-energy duo pours the infamous flavor on thick, offering both positive and passionate lyrics, including curse-free rhymes and belting, powerhouse vocals. Combining the wide range of cutting-edge talent the group has to offer allows them to flow seamlessly from hip-hop to soul, while improvising original jazz sounds and bringing into play elements of funk.
Blount Harvey often performs with additional 'fam' members including horn sections - including Saxophonist Ben & Trom-boneing from Pablo Nieves, Bassist X-Ray, The Pocket Protector 3000 - & always welcome the hype spitting of Big Hop with "the icing" from Q.
With free-verse rhymes, fresh scratch samples from JohnBeez, solo instrumentals, & jazz/funk improvisations, the group's seamless flow unites music lovers of all genres - reeling in the masses, rockin' the spot all night long - & leaving crowds hungry for more.
