Description:
The Copernicus Foundation was chartered as a not-for-profit organization in July 1971 to serve the metropolitan Chicago area as a major civic, cultural, educational, recreational and entertainment resource. The theater is the sole surviving atmospheric-style theater in the Chicagoland area, designed by architect Mason Rapp of the prestigious firm of Rapp & Rapp. Built in the 1930’s, it has a unique vintage ambiance, accented by classic red theater seats and a breathtaking blue ceiling bearing a resemblance to a star- filled sky. There are approximately 1,950 seats – 1,450 on the floor and 500 in the balcony.
