Description:
veer (vîr) v.1. To turn aside from a course, direction, or purpose; swerve. chasm (kaz`õm) n.1. A deep, steep-sided opening in the earth's surface; an abyss or a gorge. 2. A pronounced difference of opinion, interests, or loyalty. -chas`mal (kaz`mõl) adj. Veer Chasm...what's in the name? They have created a sound often described as gothic, alt rock, and postpunk; terms often not fit to co-exist, but worthy descriptions none the less. The band’s new full length album, the Minions of Zilon, hopes to reach even more people starved for something different. The story so far: 1997's Blade Halo was an electro-pop blast of industrial noise, 2001's the Depth of You was a nod to the band's shoegazer/darkwave roots, and 2003's Suffer Cruel Children hailed the glam/postpunk sound of the band. The Minions of Zilon is a sonic departure characterized by a beautiful and edgy sound that summarizes where Veer Chasm has gone and where they are going. The band fused their live energy to their unusual recording techniques on this record. Twelve intense songs that will not let go even after you've turned off the CD.
Band Members:
Veer Chasm hails from Riverside, California and was founded by Joel Dalangin ( lead voice, guitars, drums, programming ) along with Sam Hammond (bass) and Jim Marshall (drums). Inspired by bands like the Cure, My Bloody Valentine, Interpol, Radiohead, and Smashing Pumpkins, they first released 1997's Blade Halo LP to much fanfare. All of their subsequent releases helped gain a loyal following over the USA and overseas where they were embraced by patrons of the bands' internet and underground radio presence. The Minions of Zilon is their first album using all acoustic drums ( versus their staple of loops and samples ) to go along with Veer Chasm’s brand of powerful vocals and wall-of-sound guitars. It also marks the first time since Blade Halo where every instrument is played by Dalangin himself. "It's a record written in the very depths of love, with the twists of betrayal, comedy, and irony thrown in." says Joel of the new album. "I tried to capture a spontaneous and immediate sound not present in our previous records and harness elements I like about our live sound. It's the most raw sounding record we've done yet. In a way it's a summary of what I think Veer Chasm does best. A lot of lyrical and musical themes are re-explored from previous albums.” The results are powerful. Veer Chasm is now touring everywhere to support the Minions of Zilon. Veer Chasm’s live show is not to be missed!
