Description:
Shadowboxx
The band Shadowboxx began in June of 2002. The band consists of Shane Russell (lead vocals, guitar), Vincent Jarman (lead guitar, vocals), Pete House (bass), and Daryl Battaglia (drums). Although Shane is originally from Monroe, LA, and Pete hails from New York, all members of the band reside in the New Orleans area. Their influences include Incubus, The Dave Matthews Band, and Stone Temple Pilots. They have built a strong following in the New Orleans area -- playing venues like Twi Ro Pa and Fat Tuesday’s on Bourbon St.-- and their popularity is spreading regionally because of stellar performances at such venues as The Blue Monkey Tavern in Monroe, LA and Upstairs Downstairs in Biloxi, MS. All members of Shadowboxx are passionate about creating quality songs and entertaining their audience. They play original, alternative rock music, combining acoustic and electric guitars with heavy rock rhythms and contagious, sincere lyrics. In August 2002, they released a three song EP. In addition, WMSU 91.1 FM, Mississippi State University’s radio station, recently began airing music from their long-awaited debut album, What’s Inside, which was just released in early October.
Band Members:
Shane Russell (lead vocals, rhythm guitar)
Shane studied under many vocal coaches. Before joining Shadowboxx, he performed with several bands in Shreveport, Louisiana, including Walker St. and Overdrive. He loves music and creating it. He chose music for his life because it moves him.
Vincent “Vega” Jarman (lead guitar, vocals)
Vincent has been playing guitar for about 9 years. His idols of the trade include George Harrison and Eric Clapton because of their well-orchestrated, catchy riffs. He has a tremendous appreciation for “sing-a-long” guitar riffs. While living in Boston, Vince honed in on his song writing skills by participating in the open mike night every Tuesday at The Kells. Prior to Shadowboxx, Vince played with Soggy Cheese and Chicken.
Pete House (bass guitar)
While living in Buffalo, New York, Pete began his music career at age 10. While there, he studied under Billy Sheenan and beefed up his chops touring with Valhalla and Shooting Star. In his pre-Shadowboxx days, Pete and his band Gypsy Rose were always “Up All Night” touring with Slaughter.
Daryl Battaglia (drums)
At an early age, Daryl was fiercely into the drums. He acquired most of his skills playing along with CDs and jamming with long-time friend Vincent Jarman. His skills were later refined under the instruction of Ray Fransen, who taught him the fundamentals of jazz and its application to rock. His influences include Buddy Rich, Lars Ulrich, and Chad Sexton. He played with The R.G. and Soggy Cheese and Chicken before joining Shadowboxx.
