Description:
The Law of Fives plays melodic modern rock with an emphasis on engaging lyrics and melodies, coupled with skillful performances and an often-irreverent sense of humor. The NYC-based quartet, with influences ranging from 70’s classic rock to 90’s alternative, has created a sound that guides listeners to the crossroads of imagination and sound.
Band Members:
The Law of Fives began in the spring of 2001. Long-time friends Tyson and Christopher finally joined forces to form a band that would combine the best elements of the past half-century of rock with their own peculiar musical sensibilities. The pair teamed up with bassist Josh Kross and drummer Jeremy Friedman, and assembled a sizable catalog of original material.
Since late 2001, The Law of Fives has performed extensively throughout the New York City area, playing at well-known venues such as CBGB, Tobacco Road, Arlene Grocery, Don Hill's, Luna Lounge, Galapagos and Parkside Lounge. From their secret lair in Hell's Kitchen, the band eventually began expanding its reach, playing shows throughout the Northeast. In June of 2002, they self-produced a ten-song demo CD, entitled "Obelisk," which was a worthy introduction to the band's unique and often iconoclastic sound. The band has received College Radio play on both WRUV 90.1 (University of Vermont) and WHCL 88.7 (Hamilton College) and has been Web-cast live by Digital Cable Network (www.dcn.com). In May 2003, their song "Waste Away" was added to XM Satellite Radio's Unsigned Channel, where it has spent to date 7 weeks on Unsigned’s Top 20 Most Played chart. At the same time the band began recording their second CD, “Plexor's Lament.” The disc, featuring 14 new songs penned by Lewis and Gwinn, is scheduled to be released in November 2003. To support the new CD, The Law of Fives plans to tour regionally throughout the next year and promote through various media outlets.
