Juneway is a songwriting and production duo from Syracuse New York. Rob Barone and Leon Cominsky grew up in bands together from early middle-school up into their middle-twenties. Seeing that the state of rock music in their home town was starting to lean towards bad cover bands and even worse Creed/Nickleback rip-offs, they started experimenting with sequencers, samplers, and drum machines (oh my!). The results of the experiment were collected in a demo tape (or compact disc, but who says “demo compact disc”?). This demo has enjoyed several regular rotations in both rock and dance clubs, and its creators have enjoyed praises and complements from bar-fly low-lives, radio DJ’s, club owners, and everyone in between. The songs themselves are ones that were written over the past two years on acoustic guitars and then transcribed to keyboards. They have hooks all more than worthy of dancing to, yet they contain more substance on the lyrical side of the coin. Not as shallow as simply saying “ I love you, let’s dance the night away”, but at the same time not deep enough to be considered trite or preachy. There is no lyrical mission to convince kids of joining a particular political party, share a religion, or love one another. Juneway’s music was created from the feelings of being in your twenties, out of school, and not doing what you planned on when you were sixteen. All of the material is original and written exclusively by Juneway. Not one song contains sampled content of preexisting material by other artists (well ok, one song does, but the samples are royalty free). Rob and Lee have been waiting tables post-college while working on this demo. Creating characters, situations, and material from the constant interaction with extremely particular individuals. Rob, holding a degree in English, is the literary and metaphorical master, capable of explaining and describing life elegantly using only a simple sentence. Lee tends to be less metaphorically elegant and more analytically brash. Studying Sociology and Criminal Justice, Lee try’s to develop a gray area within a song where even the most appealing of situations has an underlying restless feeling of detachment. That is the basic belief of the band. Everyone is, on some level, detached from the rest of us. We work, sleep, eat, love, breath all the same, yet we all feel the need to compete with one another. Juneway speaks to the person who has a seemingly decent life, but is unable to feel completely content due to tiny stresses other people are able to ignore or overlook. Rob and Lee effortlessly play off one another’s style, and create music in an environment free of a preconceived idea of what’s the “right or wrong” way. Enjoy
Lee: Voice, Keys, Guitars, samples and programming. Enjoys a rousing match of squash, defeating misery, and enjoys enjoying the enjoyment of being in joy. Rob: Vox doubler, Keys, Guitars, sampling and programming. Enjoys swashbuckling, bare knuckling, geek crumpling, and pizza.
