Experiment Theory

Ashley Speights was born and raised in Jacksonville, Fl, while Levi Speights grew up in Thailand. They met at Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. In September of 2000 they started playing music together with a couple of other talented musicians and formed a band called 'Tickets'. During Levi and Ashley's time with 'Tickets' they produced two albums and toured up and down the east coast of the United States. During this time Levi and Ashley married and after graduating decided to start a project called Experiment Theory. They both shared a passion for music and a determination to be as good as they possibly could be: "Because we were married we could read each other really well", laughs Ashley. "I feel that when we play, I know exactly where Levi is going musically".

Experiment Theory is an ever-evolving musical idea. Their goal is to create quality music that people can listen to, share, and enjoy. Their musical influences range from classical to punk and everything in-between. Because of this diversity they have developed an exclusive sound: "For me playing (the drums) is more than just keeping a steady rhythm;" Ashley reveals. 'It's about the music and the lyrics. I feel my style is different because I don't just play the drums, I look for ways to embellish and accent the vocals." Levi agrees, "It not about how quick or technical you can play a solo, rather it’s how quick you can get your audience to relate to your music".

Their EP, 'EP One' is a new beginning for these two musicians. Previously touring the past four years with the band 'Tickets', has given Experiment Theory not only the experience, but also the DIY (Do It Yourself) ethic, which was essential to recording their new EP. 'EP One' carries a diverse and powerful statement. Their songs are full of energy, tension, and beauty; raw but lovely, lush but stripped. It stresses the band’s rock song craft, but it also captures the kind of jamming and improvising that happens when musicians become keenly tuned in to one another. "We wanted this EP to be a reaction against soulless rubbish while implementing hope to the hopeless.

Always raising the bar with their music, Experiment Theory challenges themselves to go beyond the status quo. They have that rare quality that allows the audience to feel like they are interacting with the band on stage. Their live shows are deep, intense and moving. Because of this, Experiment Theory is rapidly gaining a huge fan base everywhere they go.
