Description:
The Mad Scientists are a three piece band making experimental dark psychedelic jazz metal that explores the boundary between chaos and structure.

Band Members:
The Mad Scientists’ strange brew of dark psychedelia that often skates the fine line between melody and chaos has helped them to make a name for themselves among Denton, Texas' renowned eclectic artistic community. After success in their area, the Mad Scientists are wanting to expose more people to their musical mayhem. They have recently released their first album, Geoparsitism. Regarding the album writer Christopher Largen (JUNK, Prescription Pot, High Times, Cannabis Culture) stated, “The Mad Scientists descend into their laboratory to blaze musical trails like hallucinogenic tracers... but this eclectic fusion is rich with sonic layers and overarching lyrical themes, and so deserves to be experienced in full, with a macrocosmically enlightened ear.” The band plans on experimenting on new subjects later this year when they their sonic laboratory on the road to tour outside of Texas. Guitarist/vocalist Brannon Barr and bassist Kim Fry began jamming shortly after their meeting in a college dorm. It soon became apparent that they had something very original and unique. "She really knew where I was coming from. I could play a very bizzarre line that most musicians would not even know how to process and she would recognize exactly where it was going and how to best compliment it." In March of 2004, they unveiled their sonic mutant creations. Excited to hear something different from the standard fare, audiences coming out for a beer and a date stopped talking and started listening when The Mad Scientists took the stage. With the addition in May 2005 of Christina Cooper on drums even more people have taken notice. Kim has described the band's music as "experimental dark psychedelic jazz metal." It is highly musical and emotional, but also highly enjoyable. Their lyrical content adds an essential dimension to The Mad Scientists'persona. Brannon explains, "True culture comes from the people, from the bottom up. In our society, culture no longer comes from the people; it is planned out in boardrooms and sold to them from the top down. No authenticity can come of this. Our aim is to expose this travesty by presenting something authentic that will help people to reclaim their culture." They certainly present plenty of food for thought. In fact, one of the great aspects of this band is that there are many levels for the listener to enjoy.
