In 1996, Mike Younger graduated from street-singer to singer-songwriter and recording artist. Discovered on New Orleans community radio WWOZ by Nashville music publisher Chris Keaton, Younger was soon making trips to Music City where the demos he recorded caught the attention of singer-songwriter and producer Rodney Crowell.
In 1999 Rodney Crowell produced Younger’s first full-length album, Somethin’ In the Air, which received promising critical acclaim and nationwide support from AAA and non-commercial radio. With several tours to follow, Younger shared the stage with Nanci Griffith, John Hammond, Steve Earle, Kansas, Robbie Fulks, Richard Buckner, BR549, Asleep at the Wheel and many others. After performing at the Sundance Film Festival in 2000, the title track from Somethin’ In The Air was featured on the collection, Sundance: Where Music Meets Film featuring Younger alongside Blondie, John Hiatt, Lisa Loeb and others. Mike returned the following year to perform at Sundance after which songs from Something In the Air were licensed to several network television programs.
Relocating to New York City in 2002, Younger soon assembled what was to become the band that would back him up on his latest effort, Tooth and Nail. The lineup includes A-list New York notables, Bob Packwood on keys, bassist Skip Ward and powerhouse drummer Louie Appel, known for his work with Southside Johnny , John Eddy and G.E. Smith. Throughout ’03 and ’04, this latest incarnation of Younger’s band has been playing in and around NYC, building up steam in anticipation of the tours to follow the new release.
