Comments: I saw Revolver live a couple of months ago & it was by far one of the best live show I have ever seen!!! Thier first cd is awesome but the new stuff they played that night, blew my mind!! So much energy & raw emotion!!! Everyone check them out if you get the chance!!!
Music types: Metal, Alternative
Description:
Introduction:

A long history and a common perception created a new energy in 2001. This energy was named Revolver and the Atlanta Based band is rapidly emerging as a solid music force on the Atlanta club circuit. Their professional ability was confirmed when they made the finals of the Jim Beam, Rolling Rock Battle of the Bands on their 6th live performance. Revolvers’ music is more “cognitive therapy” as they tantalize and torment your senses causing you to recognize elements within your own life. Maq evokes your emotions as he brings his guitar into character. Dylan translates the music with his powerful vocals awakening your soul. Adding to the experience are Rusty, Adam and Mike who provide the audience with the backdrop that accentuates the entire metal experience.

Formation:

Rusty Shuler (Drum), Adam Kurtzworth (Bass), Dylan Kilgore (Vocals) & Maq Brown (Guitar) formed their alliance while playing with other bands. Looking to fill a void in their musical motivation, Maq and Rusty began to assemble some of their own material in early 2001. By November the same year, Dylan was invited in to focus the band on a more professional platform. This caused Maq and Rusty to restructure their concepts and destroy what they had previously written. Together the 3 experienced musicians compiled new songs that reflected their growth and development. Ready to share their unique sound with an audience, the guys brought in Adam on bass after searching long and hard for the right talent to fill the slot. United by their belief that music is an extension of yourself, all 4 brought an essential element to the stage. December 2003 saw the introduction of Mike Longoria (Keyboard). Bringing Mike onboard completed the outfit in preparation for Revolver’s first full length CD in early 2004.

Music Insight:

Each song is a personal deliverance of the inner self. This is Revolvers’ portrayal of their common perception “Music should be an extension of thoughts, emotions and energy”. Instruments and vocals become characters in a story as the band takes their audience through heaven and hell. Songs of sweet serenity entangled with brutal devastation stimulate and awaken your soul. Your mind is challenged by the sometimes schizophrenic twists, which relax you and send you on hyper alert all at once. Revolver deliberately structures their music to leave you wondering, “What just happened?” To fully appreciate this music it has to be experienced live where the stage erupts with tremendous energy, an energy that is Revolver!

Band Members:
- Maq Brown - Guitar I have been playing guitar for about 10 years now and have been writing songs for about 4 years. Sick of all the "verse, chorus, verse" bullshit, I try to write songs on my own standard that will take you on an emotional rollercoaster with more mood swings than your ex when she came off her prozak! I try to use the guitar to be my voice to tell a story rather than be another sound or a riff! I try to take the songs to all extreams musically. If its gonna be soft then I want to sooth you to sleep and if it's gonna be heavy then I want to make it so heavy that you'll want to punch even your grandmother in the face. Some of the songs that I used to listen to that really inspired me to start writing were songs like Orion and One from Metallica, Paranoid Android from Radiohead and Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun by Pink Floyd. Bands that have truely inspired me from the day I was born until now are System of a Down, AC/DC, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Mudvayne, Deftones, early Korn, Butthole Surfers, Black Sabbath, Radiohead, Kristen Hersh, Faith No More, Cypress Hill, Iron Maiden, Coldpay and Messhugah. I like to think in my eyes, I try to keep my equipment as simple as possible. I use Gibson and Schecter guitars, Mesa/Boogie amps, Marshall cabs, and for effects I use Boss, Line 6, Morley and E-Bow! - Adam Kurtzworth - Bass At a young age I knew I wanted to do something musically. I was always interested in many genres of music and was heavily influenced by bands such as early Metallica, too many "big hair" bands, Id rather not mention, Tool, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin. As I grew older, music changed and I was real intrigued by Rage against the machine, Korn, Deftones, Slipknot, Mudvayne and even music that was more laid back like Radiohead, Deep Forest and dredge. Much like most musicians, I started playing guitar, writing my own songs and trying to put a band together. For about 7 yrs, I switched back and forth from guitar and bass as newer band opportunities came along until finally settling on bass a year ago with revolver. I play Ernie Ball and schecter basses and use ampeg amps and cabinets. Some of my bass style was influenced by flea, mudvayne, and of course the great Cliff Burton(RIP). - Rusty Shuler - Drums I was introduced to drums back in the mid 80's, I was about 8 yrs. old. My parents friends lived up in Suches, Ga. and they were in the music business helping to promote a country cover band called Fort Mountain. I guess over the years they collected various instruments for their own use and they happened to have an old slingerland kit that their daughter was learning on. I had an interest in drums, so she wanted to teach me what she had learned. We went up there about every weekend and in the summers we lived in a cabin next door, so I got a good bit of time in on the kit. I played for a couple years and through changes in life or whatever I stop playing when I was about 12. I was 16 before I realized that I wanted to pick it up again. So, I met Adam and Maq shortly after and bought a kit. We all played together in different band situations through the years and then met Dylan and here we are.<<<< Basically I'm a self made drummer other than a little help in the beginning. I've never taking a formal lesson or much less watched an instructional video. If I needed help, I just figured it out through trial and error and Modern Drummer. I just want to play uninhibited without being conformed to any other drummer or teachers style or musical beliefs, that way I know that what I bring to the music is totally out of my own mind and soul. I have several drummers to whom I was most influenced by: Neal Peart, Mike Borden, Brain, Phil Collins, Danny Carey, Akira Jimbo, Terry Bozzio, Spag, and Lars (not any more!) and few others. I listen to all types of music, but that prog. metal has my soul rapped up. My gear: Tama Starclassic (birch), Remo, Roland electronics, Paiste, Zildjian, Bosphorus, Pearl, Gilbritar, and Vic Firth. MUSIC IS MEDICINE FOR THE SOUL, SO INDULGE!!!! - Dylan Kilgore - Vocals Growing up in a musical family, I began to learn guitar at age 13 & discovered I had voice about a year later. Singing & playing basic mindless, unintelligent,& never challenging music as I was learning, I grew bored with it very quickly. Realizing that there were fewer & fewer really good bands that made great powerful music, I regained my love for real music drawing from my major influences include Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, Maynard James Keenan of Tool, Trent Reznor, Marilyn Manson, John Lennon & Sarah McLachlan. Music is supposed to overwhelm your senses through sound & word. It's about lifting you up to see things in a different, new light & holding you down in the misery of darkness. It should make you feel emotions that don't exist in the day to day bullshit routine & sometimes challenge our intelligence. - Mike Longoria - Keyboards & Percussions
