Rugby 101

The object of the game is that two teams of fifteen players each, observing fair play according to the Laws and a sporting spirit, should by carrying, passing, kicking and grounding the ball score as many points possible. The team with the most points is declared winner of the match.

For those people that are interested in playing, please remember that it is a very physical sport. An individual is allowed light padding: shoulder, head, and knees, but none of the padding shall have metal, plastic or any rigid material in it, unlike football pads. Also play is continuous, unlike football that stops at every tackle. In rugby when you are tackled, you release the ball and your team or the other team may play the ball, this means that after being tackled it is important that you get back up and help your teammates, either attacking or defending. Play stops when the ball is out of bounds, a penalty has occurred, or the ball is trapped between players and is not released in a timely manner.

There are alot of other rules and things that must be adhered to, but the best way to learn them is to come out and try it for yourself. Every sport has a learning curve, as does Rugby.

Rugby is not just a sport, it is a way of life.
