Description:
The Storefront Hitchcocks are a local rock band, typically playing coffee houses and open mic nights. They often appear at Fergie's and Fire and occasionally Abilene, Doc Watson's, and Grape Street.
A power trio blending punk and folk stylings, the band's material ranges from original versions of standard rock/pop/punk tunes to original versions of well,.... originals.
This motley crew of nearly forty's show a deft hand at capturing the dreams of youth lost to so many of us in day jobs, soccer practice, and the occasional indiscretion. Their high powered performances seem to serve as an outlet for years of pent-up frustration.
Recently, at the Swarthmore Fun Fair, Swarthmore, PA, in support of the Lift & Separate tour, the band unleashed an unparalleled display of charisma and irreverence. Feeding the throng of partially clad, nubile women into a frenzied mob with songs like "You Can't Take It With You", "Queen Town", and what has become known as their anthem, "Don't Cry For Me". According to police records, the event ended with borough police disbanding a significantly less clad mob after the band was showered with new and used brassieres.
Traveling the Philadelphia scene often playing too loud, "occasionally" fighting on stage (with audience and each other), and generally having a blast, the band has built a strong local following. Band member Delmore Atom fondly remembers the glory days before Oral left the band.
"He really wasn't a nice person.... No, .... I don't think there was a kind cell in his body. The sort of person you'd catch rummaging through your sock drawer for money."
