Description:
Take one listen to any Day Station song off their forthcoming self-released album "The Beat Says Yes", and you will realize a few things: First, these guys know how to write a song and make it stand out. They also know how to weave a complex musical texture complete with soaring vocals, intricate piano lines, and driving rhythms. Above all though, you will realize that they just want you to enjoy their music.
This four-piece alt-rock band out of College Park, MD is taking pop rock, mixing it with soul, and making it dance. Fronted by Joe Mach, a charismatic singer with a powerful weapon of a voice, accented by pianist Dave Trichter, who lays down some of the most innovative piano work since Ben Folds emerged from the scene, Day Station has forged a truly unique sound. Combine that with the intrepid rhythm section of drummer Scott Robinson and bassist Phil Shea, whose heavy drum and bass rhythms turn these carefully crafted tunes into potential hits.
Day Station began as a side-project between area singer/songwriter Joe Mach and pianist Dave Trichter. In October 2002 they began collaborating, writing new songs and ideas at a prolific pace. Furnished with an arsenal of new material, they sought out a tight rhythm section to fill out their sound. They turned to the most obvious choice; ex-band mates and long time friends Brian Boone and Phil Shea. After listening to the new sound, Brian and Phil immediately joined, and by December 2002 things began to take shape.
The new line-up brought a professional work ethic and an exhaustive approach to songwriting and arranging- “Every part of each song should have a reason for being” says singer Joe Mach. They recorded a 2 song demo at Phase Studios and began honing their live show small venues around the area. Their infectious ontstage energy, danceable rhythms, and passionate vocals creates a party-like atmosphere that audiences can't help but enjoy.
Joe and Dave spent the summer at an undisclosed music television syndicate, which steered the bands songwriting and overall sound in a new and glorious direction. Scott Robinson, who worked with the band on their EP, began playing drums for the band, and they quickly forged their new identity, playing what they now dub “dance rock”—high energy rock tunes with catchy vocals and melodic piano lines. And of course, the beat.
