Description:
500 miles to Memphis consists of three musicians in their early twenties from the rural heart of Ohio(near Cincinnati).
• Ryan Malott – guitfiddle and vocs • Lee Steele - drums and vocs • Casey Shelton – bass and Nintendo
500 miles to Memphis is an independent and self-managing band whose fan base stretches all the way to New Orleans and Dallas, where some of the previous band members lived. With the release of their new cd, 9-23-03, they have been getting a lot of recognition in the local scene and packing every venue they play. Their popularity comes to no surprise since their music is like no other. They have found the perfect blend of country and punk rock that can grab a hold of anyone who hears its hypnotic sounds. They’ve been described as “alt. country”, “hellbilly”, “cowpunk”, and just good old fashion rock n’ roll. Call it what you want, these boys just play good music.
“I saw these guys a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. They fall somewhere in between emo and punk and country. lots of energy to spare.” –Lisa Miller of Wussy fame.
“500 is a unique band. If Johnny Cash, the Flaming Lips, Dashboard Confessional, and Hank Williams went out drinkin’ and got thrown into a studio this is what it would sound like.” – Ward Richmond of Slick 57 fame.
