Shakin' the house in places like Tipitina's and Cafe Brasil with up-tempo funk songs, the band's music is rich in spontaneity and mild in mellow reggae groove. Saaraba's diverse repertoire will rock the crowd and explore the language of music in downtown Pensacola, Florida. Come check out why New Orleans' Offbeat Magazine portrays these guys with "...an appreciated musical sense of humor that is often subtle and sometimes in your face." www.saaraba.com
****HISTORY OF THE BELMONT-DEVILLIERS**** The Tin Pan Open Mic is designed to establish a venue for local musicians to showcase their original music in Pensacola. In order to re-ignite support for the Belmont, we have also booked recorded artists, such as Dread Clampitt from Destin (Jan. 8th) and Saaraba from New Orleans (Jan. 22). We were attracted to the Belmont-DeVilliers area because of it's history as the jazz district of Pensacola in the 60s and 70s. Everyone from Tina Turner to Percy Sledge played near that corner in a club called the 506. Unfortunately, as we all know, the neighborhood took a nose dive into drugs and crime in the recent decades, but it is turning around again. The founders of the Tin Pan, Mike Kinser, Chad Bishop, and Teresa Hill, also chose the Belmont Arts Center as the venue because we could simultaneously support the music scene and draw light to the district. The center is non-profit, and we are supporting them with weekly rent. The Tin Pan is not an established non-profit entity, but we do fall under their umbrella. None of the volunteers for the open mic are generating personal income. We use the money specifically to hire the bands and cover expenses. Alcohol is allowed, but not blatantly encouraged. Because we maintain a family atmosphere, we do NOT have a full bar set up, but we do offer wine, soft drinks, and food provided by local restaurants, such as Papa John's and Hungry Howie's, and Domino's for donation to the project. We are in the infancy of what we anticipate to be a dynamic revival of the jazz era in Pensacola, and we would love for you to be a part of this initiative.
