Description:

And so it begins… 6 months ago it was just an idea. The first meeting consisted of about 4 bands in an apt.. The possibilities seemed endless. We discussed so many things that most probably didn’t even think would happen. We’ve come a long way in 6 months.

The idea: Each band promote the DA, in doing so, you are all promoting each other. It becomes a band community. It doesn’t matter if you like one of the other bands or not, the one thing you all have in common is that you want recognition. This can be achieved by putting aside musical differences and becoming a brotherhood. -Some have lost sight of that already. Just because you don’t have a show, or are not on a particular show, does not mean you promote it any less. Someone else will still be pushing your show for you when you have one.

The Tools: -The site: discoalliance.com is the HUB of all operations. We want that site to be the place that people go whenever they want to go see a live show. The eventual goal is that when touring bands come to Detroit (or any other state that has a DA) they will hit us up for opening acts. In doing so we get more recognition and you get to play with bands that you never thought would be possible to play with. We do NOT want to be a michiganartist.com or any other site that just lets anyone post shows. We need to be taken more seriously and that is why it’s members only. Our members must consist of hard working bands! -Flyers: The flyers roughly consist of 10 shows. I make around 1000 of them per week (at least I try) and these are the second most important of the tools we have. You pay $20 a month and that’s where the money goes. Now, the idea is that while you’re passing out your stash of flyers for your show (or just cause you’re supportive) other bands in different areas of metro Detroit are doing the same so you’re getting promoted much more and farther than you even know. That is also why it is important to post your shows on the DA site right after you post it on your site. What most people don’t realize is that, even if a lot of these people that get flyers don’t attend your show, they’ve seen your name. Next time they see your name, they might really be curious as to what you are like live. -Contact Sheets: Where else can you have a sheet made for you that contains all contact info for 20 bands? If you want to book a show and don’t want to open for some 80’s cover band, you call up some of your DA brothers and book the whole thing. You’re more likely to have a better draw and get exposed to more new potential fans by booking other bands like you. -The Comp.: Soon to be released, this compilation will probably the best weapon we have in our promotional arsenal, for the obvious reasons. With a selling price of no more than $3, if someone likes your music and either can’t afford your CD or just likes some of the other DA bands, after purchasing the comp. they will be exposed to all of the DA bands (that made it on vol.1) and that will be priceless my friends. I know at LEAST 1 song from all the bands on the comp. and so will others. PLUS, if they liked that song enough they’ll probably buy your full length or EP. We also have a few bands that will be hitting the road soon, so you know that your singles will be heard all over the place, not just Detroit. -Forwarded E-mails: Anytime a get an email from someone looking for help booking a show or someone offering help to us, I forward that to all DA bands. We are supposed to help other bands that need it. We don’t want to be known as assholes that think we’re too good for anybody. We want to be the “go to” guys in the area for anything related to entertainment. Read the emails I forward to you and take some time out to help others. Give the DA a good name and reputation. -The Zine: The disco alliance magazine will be used to put our bands closer to “bigger” “signed” bands. People might pick up our zine for one of our bands, but for those that pick it up because of a “signed” band they will get to know more about DA bands that are covered in that issue. It’s just another avenue to promote the DA (your band). We are also looking for any help we can get, so if you’re interested or know anyone that is, hit me up.

*Always remember that we are all helping each other regardless of musical and creative differences!
