Description:
JAY STIELSTRA began singing with his daughters when they were small, and by the time they were grown, he was writing and performing his original songs across the state of Michigan, with regular appearances at The Ark in Ann Arbor, and at East Lansing's Ten Pound Fiddle, the Bliss Fest concert series and many other Michigan festivals and concerts. Jay has authored a number of musical plays--the North Country Opera, North Country Opera Continued, Tittabawasee Jane, America, America, The Prodigals, and Old Man in Love--that have developed a loyal following in southeastern Michigan. Many of the songs in these musicals celebrate the natural beauty of Michigan. Songs like Cross Over the Line, Manistee Waltz, I Love Two Rivers, Never Been to Dixie, and I'm Singin' (This Old State of Mine) are timeless "Jay Stielstra classics" that have captured the hearts of those who love the northern regions of our great state. In addition to being a playwright and singer-songwriter, Jay recently published two poems in In Drought Times, an anthology of Michigan poets and painters. Over the last several decades, Jay has written and performed hundreds of haunting, funny, poignant and good-time songs about the Great Lakes, Michigan, friendship, life, loss, and love. His songs have been recorded by artists such as Joel Maybus, Charlie Weaver, David Menefee, Mustard's Retreat, and Connie Huber and Cheryl Dawdy of The Chenille Sisters. His CD, Times That We Had, was recorded with the Country Quartet. Recently, Jay formed the JAY STIELSTRA TRIO, with vocalist Judy Banker and dobro guitar player John Sayler. He supports the causes of peace and the environment and is an avid fisher of trout and hunter of grouse with his Labrador retriever Maggie. He lives with his wife, Barbara, in the country between Chelsea and Manchester.

Band Members:
JAY STIELSTRA TRIO Jay recently formed the Jay Stielstra Trio with long-time friends Judy Banker and John Sayler. Judy plays guitar and mandolin and provides a woman's voice for Jay's songs. John's artistry on the dobro guitar is the perfect complement to the vocals of Judy and Jay.
