Description:
The nucleus of Basement was formed in 2003 by classmates at St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown, Maryland. After two years and several lineup additions and subtractions, the band settled on five members, consisting of then-classmates Conner Gilbert, Billy Derrick, Dane Schiro, and Andy Jameson, as well as their most recent addition schoolmate Ryjan Van Evera. Their sound has been compared to a fusion of current bands such as Oasis, Weezer, the Foo Fighters, and the Gin Blossoms with 60's bands like The Beatles and Rolling Stones. The group released its debut album, Next Year's Memory, in late April of 2005. The CD consists of 11 all-original songs, the contributors of which are Conner Gilbert, Billy Derrick, and Dane Schiro. Basement has played an impressive list of shows, including the Hagerstown Suns Chili Cookoff/Music Festival in September 2005 at Municipal Stadium, a live performance on 103.7 FM “The Revolution,” several benefit concerts, and other venues. As the band’s members have graduated into college, their music has developed into a more polished, mature product with a distinctive sound that their fans greatly embrace. The band was most recently the subject of an article by the Herald-Mail newspaper in their hometown, as well as having their music featured on compilation albums by Elk Rack Records and M-Style Records. The band’s MySpace site is www.myspace.com/enterthebasement. Billy and Conner entered the studio to begin work on new material for the band in early 2007.
