What exactly is a shoechunk?

Clearly a shoechunk is a chunk of shoe. People always try to look too deeply into things.

What is the purpose of your music?

We were sick of everyone being so serious. Every song nowadays is "boo-hoo, or I'm angry, or I'm screaming because I'm sad." Music has pretty much taken a trip to crapville. We haven't even tried to put togehter good music. Right now it's more simple basic chords and simple drum beats with silly lyrics. If anything, we're all about the silly.

Why so silly?

1. To be honest, the silly is just a front. We just act in that way so people won't know how much we really hate ourselves inside. After we play a silly song, we all hide in a closet and cut ourselves with peanut shells. This ensures a very slow and painful death. Unfortunately, none of us have died yet.

2. To be honest, the silly is a cloak to hide out hidden motives. Sillyness seems to open your subliminal consciousness, so we take full advantage of that. We put subliminal messages in all our songs. Ever wonder why after you listen to us, you feel the urge to eat a cat? Ah-ha.

3. To be honest, being serious is too hard. Plus there is nothing worse than writing a serious song that you think is so deep and meaningful and then looking back and saying, "wow, I was so stupid back then." Right now we know, we're being immature and we know are songs are not very well written. Apparently there are a few people who love it. There is an audience for everthing, we just need to find our audience.

Describe the process of songwriting with your band.

A lot of our songs are improv. It usually starts out with Vinny saying, "check out this cool rift." Then Dan replys, "I've got a drum beat for that." Then Richie pretty much spurts out random phrases from his brain. His thought process consists of very vague word associations, that's how we get our randomness at times.

Who are your main influences?

We all have varying tastes in music and we listen to everything ranging from 80's new wave to hardcore. But, our main influence seems to come from the bands like the B-52's and The talking heads, and De-vo. All of these bands set precedents for other bands to follow. That in itself is quite an acheivement. Hopefully we'll leave behing some sort of legacy.

What mesage do you have to anyone who is still reading this?

We'd like to say thanks for any support at all, even if that support was laughing at the words "yohan fuger" written above the toilet in a public bathroom. Most importantly, be original, we're not saying,"go get plaid pants and a mohawk, or dye your hair black and wear bondage pants." Those are too cliche. We mean be yourself. Try to actually stand for something. Don't be a fence sitter-onner. So many people just agree with the common beliefs of society, some of those beliefs are good, but a lot are not. Don't be afraid to oppose the mainstream. No matter what make sure you're having fun.
