Description:
Threefold is a band based out of Marysville, Washington, a suburban town 45 minutes north of Seattle. Their debut album, Sinking, is a colorful blend of acoustic rock, pop, funk and a grunge. The album features 12 original songs.
Band Members:
Threefold consists of two permanent members, Ben Ekstedt (drums, vocals) and Matt Nystrom (bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar). During live performances, Ben takes on both tasks of drumming and lead vocals while Matt provides guitar and backup vocals. The band picks up Matt’s younger brother, Erik Nystrom, as a bassist to fill out the sound.
Ben and Matt began writing material in December of 2001. As time went on, the project was given the name, Sinking. Matt comments, “The title for this album came from our belief that unless you have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you will always be sinking in your own peril. Our objective was to clearly paint that picture, but also to offer a way of escape through the saving grace of Jesus Christ.”
For the recording process of Sinking, Threefold turned to W. Mark Wilson of M.A.R.S. recording studio. Wilson was in charge of all recording, mixing, mastering and even demonstrated his musical prowess with the addition of electric guitar and percussion on most tracks. The unique sounds of the album have been described by those close to the band as a combination of Jars of Clay, U2 and the Goo-Goo Dolls.
The band released Sinking in September of 2002 and since that time has been playing in a variety of venues. Currently, they are in the process of writing new material and fine tuning an already electric live performance.
