Band Members:
The John Hartmann Quartet is a hot swinging Jazz group in the St. Louis area. The group has a unique Jazzy sound while still carrying on the standard Jazz tradition. The Quartet consists of John Hartmann on guitar, Aaron Giraudo on sax, Dominic Lozano on bass, and James Starrett on drums. The band plays mainly Jazz standards, Bossa Nova, Latin, and Blues tunes. The group also plays a number of their own Jazz compositions. The Quartet got its start playing in Jazz bands together as students at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The Melodic sounds of John Hartmann are influenced by Wes Montgomery, Russell Malone, and George Benson making him one of the top up and coming Jazz guitarists around. John Hartmann grew up in St. Louis and has been playing guitar for about 12 years. He has studied under Professor Rick Haydon at SIUE, who is a well respected Jazz influence in the St. Louis area. Aaron Giraudo who plays tenor sax, also grew up in St. Louis and is currently working on a Jazz Performance degree at SIUE. He is currently studying under Professor Brett Stamps and Jason Swangler. Aaron has developed his sound after the likes of John Coltrane with smooth and soulful flavors that will blow you away. Bassist Dominic Lozano, a Jazz student as well as St. Louis native, has studied under the famous bass player Tom Kennedy. His sound is swinging to the likes of Ray Brown and Paul Chambers and really lays down a solid groove. Drummer James Starrett is currently a Jazz performance student at SIUE. His style is influenced by great Jazz drummers such as Max Roach, Elvin Jones, Jimmy Cobb, Joe Morello, and Peter Erskine. He has studied with New York drummer Montez Coleman, as well as St. Louis drummer Larry Vandiver. James has played in a number of bands including the group Soul Cafe who is currently in the studio finishing a CD project. This project includes local jazz notables such as Larry Smith, George Pierce, and Michael Hornbuckle. The collaboration of sound comes together to create a signature sound which is very unique and defining. The John Hartmann Quartet brings a contemporary approach while maintaining maturity and respect for the timeless traditional jazz sounds.
