Description:
Ryan Paul & THE ARDENT formed for a one-time gig in June of 2008, but "stuck together and spent the year gently soothing a lucky few who sought to escape the cacophony of American culture circa 2008." (isroxxor).
The band is led by Ryan Paul who had started in the Minneapolis music scene in 1999 as guitar tech for Jeremy Ylvisaker (Andrew Bird/Alpha Consumer). **Later, Ylvisaker produced a record from Ryan's first band, King Freud.
Paul sifted around the Minneapolis music scene for five years before disappearing completely in 2004. It was revealed in 2008 that Ryan had been struggling with alcohol/drug addiction. The unaccounted-for years were spent in a variety of places, including New York.
Ryan Paul returned to the Minneapolis music scene in 2008 a different character. Audiences found a new level of maturity, a sound/sober mind, and brutal honesty coming from the young songwriter. He ushered in a band of veteran Minneapolis musicians (including his father on guitar/mandolin). The Alt. Country twist was different from any that Paul had played in the past. In an interview on KARE11 (Minenapolis), Paul said, “I just shut up and played what came from the heart.”
In June of 2009, Ryan Paul & THE ARDENT released their first full-length record titled “La Vita Nuova”. Manchester Music called it “an expansive affair, illuminated with country, blues and ballad driven love songs” and rated it 3.5 (out of 4). Special guests on the album include Janey Winterbauer (Janey & Marc Perlman, Astronaut Wife) and Jimmy Peterson (Bellwether, 757s)
The band has since established themselves in the Midwest as well as playing with larger acts like Rock Plaza Central, Kid Dakota, Sam Roberts.
